Elephant mod question..

Featured Replies

I'm not looking to do this.. I like OEM (even if it is only to satisfy emissions)..

But anyway... Have cars always breathed back into the air intake?

Do you guys with the hose mod not get small oil patches on the drive?

Yes I get oil patches on the drive, but that isn't an issue for me (I used to have a classic mini haha)

I am much happier knowing all that oil is not getting circulated through all the intercooler pipes too, last time I had a boost hose off it was as dry as a bone in there. It used to be a terrible mess with the breather pipe attached, and in my mind definitely contributed to the boost hoses popping off in the past.

Get a catch can, shouldn't drip much oil on the drive then.

+1

Ive done it and I can't say ive noticed it dripping. If it does then it must drip every now and ago. Does release a bit of vapour mind.

Go for it. My SeatSport FMIC just split due to being clogged up with **** from the breather.

too much added weight :p

You must have read my mind Gareth, as that was my thinking! haha :D

pipe from the crankcase down back of engine...20 min job.

In theory, pulling a vacuum on the crankcase helps power.

Also, in the 60s, when PCV before PCV was introduced, it was estimated that 30% of all vehicle emissions were from blow-by and crankcase vapours VTA'd.

The "best" option is a very large catch can - I've seen 2 litre pop bottles used temporarily. If it's big enough, gas speed drops sufficiently that oil/water droplets form. The effect can be helped by adding stainless steel wool.

Wire wool in mine made all the difference, well the steel ball cleaning yokes as wore wool breaks and can get sucked in!

Im using a 1ltr chinese tea tin, wire wool and breather, still puffs vapours when engine is worked, though better than oil on the roads I suppose. Need bigger container :smirk:

Only time I have experience small oil drips is when its due a service. Otherwise has always been dry as a bone on my drive.
