F**ked off............why me?

Featured Replies

On my way to work on a dual carriageway and the traffic comes to stop, next thing I know some bloke hits me up the a**e.

Had to call the police as he had no insurance documents on him just so they can do the check, all came back good.

The neck hurts like hell so had to spend 2 hours at A&E to end up with some codeine that I could have got myself from the pharmacy.

Put in the claim and hope all gets sorted soon, the bumper is totally gone, dented and slightly bent boot lid smashed light and a bent quarter panel by the looks of it as the light doesn't sit straight anymore. Had to drive home with 2 bungees holding the bumper in place. Wont be surprised if they decide to wright it of.......... :'( :'( :'(

Looks allot worse in real life:

Harsh beans mate :(

Looking at it, it probably won't be written off - I had a bump a few months ago and it looked bad, but in fact was a fairly straight forward fix.

Hope all gets sorted soon & you're not badly injured.

bad news but all their fault.

On insurance doc front, hardly anyone will carry theirs, and no legal requirement unless a hire car.

Always get pics at scene and get driver in them ;)

Light - £60

Bumper - £250 to £350 (but wouldn't be surprised if that could be fixed (pushed out, glued, filled & painted) by a decent bodyshop)

Possible replacement rear bumper bar - £50 - £60?

Repair to bootlid - I reckon £150 tops for a bit of manipulation, smooth off, and repaint the lower half of the bootlid.

Then it really just depends on other areas. How is the spare wheel well looking? The spare isn't jammed in is it?

Harsh mate - but glad you got checked out and cleared by A+E.

Hopefully it will be repairable - that all looks superficial damage - as said, it all depends on damage further in.

Thanks for the all the positive comments  !

The spare wheel well looks good, but the quarter panel where the light attaches to is definitely out of shape and looking through the gap the boot lid is not flush with the rubber weather strip at the bottom. I'm sure at all can be repaired/replaced but depends on the amount of work involved.

I'm just hoping i'll get a decent curtesy car in the meantime!

Bummer, some idiot wrote my car off a month or so ago, i was gutted at the time and its still not sorted. You'll probably get a call from there ins asking how much to settle out of court for your injury, the 3K you get from them will ease the blow a little.

well, my back bumper has been fixed three times after impacts - even one which proper split it up the middle.... Wouldn't know to look at it now though.

Glad your mostly OK. Car looks straight forward to repair. Rear quarter panel will jig back into shape provided the metal isn't stretched.

it's an inconvenience but the metal can be replaced, you can't. glad you got the ok from A&E

Mine had this done to it by a Frontera:

Repair bill was best part of £3.5k, and that was nearly 3 years ago now. Prices have dropped a lot since then, so be prepared for them to say its a write-off...

If you are claiming someone elses insurance you dont settle for cheap second hand parts. just labour to repair that will be over £1000, i bet it is a write off. just make sure you get lots of advert of over price cars same as yours and dont accept offers until you are happy with it, make sure you get whiplash (Around £2500 each),and if your car isnt safe to drive make sure you get courtasey car, this way insurance company will payout a lot quicker, If you are off work due to headache or pain make sure you get doctors note as they have to pay more

Think of the bright side with whiplash payout you might be about to afford the mkll fabia vrs

Just an aside to this topic. The tart who lives next door to me (who is on benefits) has a Renaualt Clio. She has a tax disc on her vehicle that does not tally with the registeration plate, doing a seach on mid.com her vehicle comes up with "No Insurance On This Vehicle"

I informed the local police and handed a conviction to them on a plate, they are not interested.

This makes me so mad as if she causes damage to another vehicle what hope do we have.

Inform VoSA, it's probably a civil matter, rather than a criminal one (unless she drives it).

That's the thing isn't it. New laws state that if you tax your vehicle, it must have insurance and be registered on the MID, or otherwise have an off road notice. Simple way around this seems to be to register your vehicle in a name other than your own and to not tax it.

But then I am sure most of the people who drive outside the law already did this, and the new rules will just aggravate law abiding motorists, if for example their insurance company fails to put their details on the MID.

Could you not block her in somehow - then if she attempts to move the vehicle she'll need the help of the police. when they arrive - just point out the issues with her vehicle. If it's not taxed - you could always inform DVLA and there is always Crimestoppers.. :)

Had an absolute nightmare today constantly ringing the insurance company to try and get a courtesy car sorted and still nothing.............

Fell like going at this rate I might loose my hair at the age of 25 :'( !

If the insurance company comes back and says its a write-off - get a quote done yourself. TELL them you want it fixed and stick to your guns. You are the customer and you have every right to get your car back in pre-accident condition. The insurance co will look for the easiest way out. (trust me I work for a large insurance company!)

On a slightly different angle mate, are u still suffering from back/neck pain?? Was involved in an accident where a woman went thro a red light and hit me side on in ma company car. Suffered from back and neck pain for months so I put a claim in.

They take a while to get sorted, but for the time it takes u to fill out a form and possibly go for an examination then it will be worth it.

I know some peoples opinion on this subject will be negative, however the way I look at it is you didn't go out of your way to get injured. If you do suffer from pain then you are entitled to compensation.

Compensation for injury is supposed to reflect actual losses though. E.g. through money lost days off work and cost of medical care. Most people seem to have the idea injury alone equals thousands in compo.

Finally got a courtesy car, only took 5 days. "60" plate Peugeot 107, a far cry from a Furby although not a bad little car, could be far worse as they had 3 livered Fiat Pandas sat at the front of the body shop.

Now waiting for an engineer from the insurance company to ring me so I can tell him I want a new tailgate and NOT a repair.

To the above comment "compensation" I will be claiming for a 1 day loss of earnings due to neck injury (I don't get sick pay due to being self employed) and 2 days (yesterday and today) due to being unable to get to work as had now car. I'm not going to take the **** and try to milk it as thats exactly what makes premiums rise every year for everyone including me!

About 3 months ago I finally had my insurance claim settled, it was a minor bump to my Polo which required a new bumper and an alloy repair (car drove into the back of me). The other party disputed the blame but in the end I won and was awarded full costs. It took 15 months for it to be settled and I finally got my insurance excess back. I was not injured therefore no need for any injury claim etc..

On Monday I got a phone call from a solicitor whom I've never head of (wasn't mine or the other party's) asking me to help them "complete the paperwork" they asked me about the accident and how much it cost to repair my car and then went onto to advise I'm entitled to an injury claim. I pointed out that I wasn't injured to which they said I was still entitled to a four figure sum for the 'inconvinience!!!!' WTF? It's no wonder car insurance is so high. I told them to get bent and that I was happy to get my excess back and just wanted the claim settled, which is has been.
