My PD100 and modded estates

Featured Replies

Hello everyone.

Standing at a crossroad.. i want to buy a 16v Fabia 101bhp and wife wants the 1.9 Tdi estate..

I loved the sound, feel, and looks of my previous 16v 101bhp Fabia hatchback, and she loves the 1.9 Tdi estate trunk, torque and fuel economy..

On the fuel economy arguement, i can always mod the 16v engine to LPG.

But there's the "looking cool" factor B)

I love the way the hatch looks, but if a see a modded estate, it could probably win me over, who knows..

Anyone here with modded Fabia estates that are no way shy of the hatchback "cool" look?

I do realize that the PD100 as a high remap potential (and possibly more reliable), but the way it sounds.. so noisy!

Quite noisier than my wife's 2004 Audi A3 2.0 Tdi PD140.. also the PD100 vibrates much more thru the clutch..

Is there any way i can make the PD100 sound quieter? Any performance parts or engine oil that could make it tone down its sound?

How i would love if it sounded like my previous petrol Fabia.. impossible?

Help and tips needed, thanks.

Well, i guess i could live with the looks.. perhaps tinting the windows could make the estate more atractive..

But will i get a less "taka taka taka" sound by fitting a performance air filter, say Pipercross or exhaust mods?

Is it possible to make it sound more "petrolish", more like a tuned petrol engine rather than a noisy diesel?

I remember a Ford Escort 1.8D fitted with a performance exhaust and gave it a very decent pleasent sound..

Help anyone?

I'd rather a estate than my SE. I prefer the looks once lowered with vrs bumpers and stuff

WoW! Awesome! Did gave me a hole different perspective, thanks!

I'm now starting to embrace the idea of buying the estate :)

The one we tried was silver, and although black looks much more agressive, that silver one has kind of a classy look :)

Well, your post took care of the looks issue.. now there's the engine´s diesel sound..

Read here somewhere about a company called "noisekiller", i'll try to find out if they ship to Portugal, some sort of engine sound supressing kit compatible with the PD100.

Also read that there's a PD130 Seat engine cover of some sort, must find if its "plug'n'play" for the PD100.

Tips wanted and welcomed!!

More space for ICE too, amps and subwoofers etc :D

If you need more info I have an engine cover on my PD130.

It sits on little bolts on the top of the engine and bracket with rubber "lug" on the back end. There is also a rubber collar that fits round the oil filler and a foam "jacket" that goes around the top of the engine and around the bottom of the cover so also adding to the sound proofing etc.

Our engine sounds really quiet in the cabin.

Check if there is a cover underneath the bonnet... that will make a difference too.

Another vote for the estate diesel anyway.

vRS front and rear bumpers on, nice exhaust protruding out the back, lowered slightly, rear ARB (to compensate for the extra weight of the estate) and a few others subtle mods here and there and you have the potential for a really nice car. Oh yeh... and a remap, pd160 intake, green cotton filter etc etc...

WoW!! I now understand what you said.. never expected that a Fabia estate could look so wicked cool.. it´s almost as it has "POWER" stamped all over.

Tech1e, that is one seriously brutal good looking estate.. and quite a powerful statement to others.

Ok, i'm sold.. i'm buing the PD100 Fabia estate, so.. how do i make the PD100 sound more "powerfuly petrolish", without so much diesel noise?

Achievable.. or impossible?

(if i could make it sound like a 16v petrol Fabia with a KN air filter.. that´s the dream i'm after.. only a dream?)

Thanks everyone for helping me with this.

Mine started as a PD100, engine swap for a PD130 (along with everything else possible from a wrecked vRS Inc factory xenons, ESP, heated seats, etc etc) now running circa 220 bhp I guess, not sure on it's last figure, was an awesome weapon.

You seem set on trying to make it sound like a petrol... Its not going to happen unfortunatly... A decent mufflercetomy will make it sound good, but not petrol like. Personally i prefer the sound of a decent exhaust on a diesel than most sounding petrols

I see.. costum mufflers are not allowed in my country, so does anyone knows what aftermarket brand and model number is currently available for thr PD100 estate? I'll then try to find it here in Portugal.

Did a search today on REMUS and SUPERSPRINT websites but found nothing..

Milltek is not available in my country and they only have the VRS listed, so any other options?

If your fitting a vrs rear bumper and modifying it to fit your car then why not get the Milltek and lengthen it? :)

I cut the tailpipe off my blue flame exhaust and welded a straight pipe in to extend it.

A possibility, no doubt, but i'm looking for direct "plug'n'play" fit.

Saw 2 models at superskoda.com, they claim them to fit all Fabia I estate and direct fit.. i have no ideia if they are any good..

I´ll try my local autoshop, they sell REMUS, so i'll see if they can inquire them if there is a tailored model for the PD100 Fabia estate.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

Smart- any plans for the future except roof rails and remap?

Lowering the estate is also an option, and either painting the rims black [tech1e style :)] or new ones..

A performance exhaust (pointing down as the OEM one to avoid washing her back end all the time).. saw a DTM style one at superskoda.com.. i wonder if it can be fitted with the tip facing down..

Tips/advices welcomed :)

Time for an "update":

After fitting the "tuning module" i realized that a suspension upgrade will be necessary to keep up with a higher performance from the engine, even more so after a proper remap..

Since i want to improve stability without sacrificing too much confort (it is a family estate with my 2 girls in the back every day) rather then preparing it for track days, i decided on some uprated springs and new dampers..

I was just about to order Koni sport springs and 4 new dampers (Bilstein B4, Kayaba Excel-G or Sachs Advantage) and:

ohhht.jpg

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

So, does anyone know of a good alternative for a -30mm drop without sacrificing confort?

And what would be a better choice from the above list of dampers?

Read that both Bilstein B4 or Kayaba Excel-G would handle around -30/-35mm drop, no ideia about the Sachs Advantage.

Coilovers are way more expensive and overkill for the small upgrade i'm after.

So, does anyone know of a good alternative for a -30mm drop without sacrificing confort? = Air.

How much are you looking to spend on springs and shocks? as a fairly decent set of coilovers are around £400 most spring/shock kits out there that are worth having are around this price range.

Btw that tuning box will do nothing

Probaly nothing inside it....
