How to change head unit? 2006 octavia

Featured Replies

I'm having a minor fault with my stream head unit...On much deliberation I think it would be a good excuse to upgrade to a Bolero unit, there are some for sale ay £175 which seems ok to me. (given my limited knowledge)

Is it just a matter of taking out the stream unit and then plugging in the new Bolero unit using the same connectors etc?

Is there a "How to" guide anywhere, I couldn't find one using the search option.

Thanks for any help

Hi again.

It's *fairly* straight-forward, there's a good guide on how to remove a Stream with pics here: http://octavia-vrs.com/cms/content/mfd2-install-guide

You can also see some more pics of the dash area in my photostream:

On your car it's almost certain you'll have to also replace your CANBUS Gateway too, which will be an extra ~£90, one like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-OEM-CAN-BUS-gateway-1K0907530AD-1K0-907-530-AA-S-L-/300496000700?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item45f6f516bc

This is an interface that controls a number of the car's features, and the older revisions have an issue that causes the battery to drain if you install a Bolero. Searching through this forum for "canbus gateway" should give you more info. Would be worth reading through this thread too: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/158222-bolero-and-the-can-gateway-problem/

As long as you get a Bolero that comes out of an Octavia it'll be the same shape as the Stream so you'll be able to reuse the fascia surround too. (Superb Boleros are a different shape for some reason). A Superb Bolero should still work fine, you'll just need a new fascia.

As I mentioned in your other thread, an alternative might be for you to install a Connects2 adapter in place of the CD-changer with your Stream HU, this will give you a simple Aux-in that you can then use an mp3 player with.

I have a bolero and bluetooth kit for sale. Would also be willing to help install.
