Rear Bump Strip - Advice needed please

Featured Replies

Had my car pranged slightly a few weeks ago and sent it in to get repaired last week. Slight damage to rear quarter panel, bumper and trim. When i went to collect it i noticed the trim didn't fit properly. The old trim filled the space, but the replacement trim is about 5mm shy on either side (start and end) and leaves a noticeable gap. Apart from that the trim looks a perfect fit.

The garage assured me they ordered the correct part and i can't see it being mixed up with another car or the mk2, so how can it be a different length??

The car was left with them for other issue (i.e. unacceptable workmanship!!), so they have to investigate the trim issue.

Has anyone ever experienced this??

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Colm

I had my rear bumper fixed in a slight shunt and mines the same...

hatch or estate?

Mines a hatch.

I scuffed the corner on a wall, ordered a new one (rear strip) when I collected it checked the part number which was moulded on the

inside face, fitted it and found exactly the same thing, namely the ends dont fully fill the recess, there is a gap of about 2-3 mm at each end,

the car is a hatchback, guess its the norm from reading these posts.

it's weird, why would they change the size of the bump strip?

Need to find someone with the last edition of the mk1 and see if the current bump strip fits that one alright.

AFAIK, the pre-facelift bumper had a different bump strip. I retro-fitted Skoda reversing sensors, and the instructions were different for the FL to the pre-FL.

Perhaps the trim is not clipped fully into place?

If it is not pushed fully home along the back, then the sides will be short.

All seems fine to me & its the same length short on both sides.

Spoke to the garage yesterday and they said they have pushed it further in and now there is only a 1mm or so gap at either end. I have yet to collect the car so will see then.

In a way i am glad others have experienced the same issue and it is the norm, as i can live with that.

I also discovered the model was facelifted in 2000 and since mine was a 2003 did some checking on part numbers with Skoda just to make sure it wasn't the older moulding. Turns out they ordered and fitted the correct part number to my car.

I was going to list both part numbers but i threw out the post-it i wrote them on. Sorry.

Thanks

Colm
