The Bank Holiday Car Detailing Plan

Featured Replies

3 day bank holiday, and ive decided to get those horrible little swirls out of the black paint on my VRS.

Im largely a Car detailing virgin exept from a bit of polish and sealant application in the past.

The plan:

Jetwash the majority of the excess dirt from the car

Wash the car in a Autoglym shampoo. (no wax content for obvious reasons)

Clay the car with Meguiars Clay and quick detailer

Good old T cut origional the whole car

Wax the whole car with Meguiars DeepCrystal Carnauba Wax

Do the Black bumper strips with Carplan Black Trim Wax

And finally touch it all up with a Halfords special 3 part touch up kit

ooo and ive investd in 4 or 5 microfibre towels

Then stand back and admire my work and my what will be huge arms.

Is there anything i should know before i start all this? Should i touch it up at the end or earlier in the process?

There is one thing you should now, and that is none of this will get rid of any swirls.

T-Cut will put more in. Its horrid stuff.

Get some Autoglym SRP if you are doing this weekend otherwise order some Poorboys Blackhole glaze off the net to fill those swirl marks.

What i would do for this weekend (ie buy from a shop):

Autoglym Super Resin Polish

Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection

Then the wax (assuming the Megs Deepcrystal has no abrasives in it - otherwise Autoglym HD Wax)

If you want to wait then:

Poorboys Black hole glaze (there may be some other better hand applied products to get rid of swirls but i have a machine so not too sure!)

AutoGlym SRP

Collinite 476s Wax.

Finally - Touchup after you have clayed and before the products.

T-cut, should be renamed Liquid sand.

Clay barred the car today ... went smashingly well.....

If no Tcut then how am i going to cut through the paint to get the swirls and the scratches out?

Surely the marks left by Tcut if done properly are finer and easier to mask than the swirls and scratches you remove?..... it does depend on the condiditon of the car though.

The car was previously owned by literally a no common sense idiot and theres swirls and light marks where hes pushed a brush when washign etc etc lol!

Its either Tcut or i skip the Tcut and go Autoglym deepshine, Autoglym super resin polish, then the carnauba wax?

Use Megs Ultimate Compound, Scratch X, or Farecla G3 Scratch remover

NOT T-Cut

All 3 available at Halfords

I think there's a general opinion do not use t-cut.

Poorboys do a range of polish with various grades of abrasiveness to them, not used them yet personally, but on detailing world get a lot of use. It's a great forum to pick up tips and ask for advice for cleaning/detailing

If it is that bad - where in the Midlands are you? I have a DA Polisher and could possibly help you out.

Using t-cut will trash the paint work, we need to know how bad the swirls are and how much paint there is. The safest way is a DA and some soft pads and Menz polish, 106FF on a Sonus white pad is a good start. Work small areas until polish is clear (abt 4 mins).

Didnt T-cut it in the end due to time.... but i did do a panel and it turned out really nice afterwards... it got rid of the swirls and left much lighter ones behind all in one direction with the paint which were easily filled with wax etc, i think T-cut is down to how much work you put in... as we know T-cut is serious hard work .

either way ... i clay bar, 2 different polishes, turtle wax and canouba wax, and came up an absolute treat, i used that trim wax also and it is seriously amazing.

The paint has come up looking deeper and looking more solid of a colour than i have ever seen it before. :) Looking into 3M machines and compounds etc for other vehicles

Poorboys Black Hole. Approx 12 quid.

Made my tired old black paint look much much nicer,

deeper colour and very smooth.

For people on a budget or inexperienced detailers

(I am both of those) It's ideal as its very easy to

use and results achieved on just the first use

warrant the £12 outlay.

Mines getting the treatment again on Friday ready

for the meet at Castle Combe.

Buy some, you won't regret it.

(I also have the white diamond version for the van :D )
