Jus replaced the fan speed resistor...

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have just replaced the fan speed resistor on my Fabia vRS. It's a pig of a job. Now, the fan is working on all four settings but the resistor part is not sitting in tight to where it came out off. Would it be ok to leave it like this?

Bump

IMHO It would not be a good idea

It sits in the air flow thus cooling the resistor pack that you have found burnt out previously

Cool thanks. In the end I used a flat heat screw driver to wedge the old one out. How do you get it back in lol

Have a look at the old one to identify any fixings or tabs/locking tabs. Got any silicone dielectric grease? Could try painting a minor amount of that onto any contact areas of the exterior of the resistor pack.

Nope don't have any grease. I'll give fitting it in another go tomorrow. Bloody thing is in the most awkward place lol

the resistor pack slips in, then you have to turn it 45 degrees to lock it in, have a look at the thread http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/170338-how-to-change-fabia-fan-speed-resistor/ and the lin in the first post http://www.blower-motor-resistor.co.uk/skoda-fabia-blower-motor-resistor.html

if you leavered it out with a screwdriver you might have damaged the retaining clips

also a common cause of the resistors failing in lack of air flow, check and replace the pollen filter as if that is clogged it will cause the failure

That di electric grease is like rocking horse ****e lol

can be a pain in the rear to turn the 45 degrees to lock it in due to lack of space, i could not get it back with the plug attached but the plug connects easy once you have got the resistor in and locked

only thing was there is a lot of sharp edges and collected a few nicks and cuts on the back of my hand

Sorted!!! Well after a bit of fiddling about finally got the damn thing in. First tried with the wire connected and couldn't turn the resistor 45degrees once it was in place. Then took it out, took off the wire and tried fitting the resistor back in and turning it and I did. But then I couldnt connect the wire lol. So took the resistor out and connected the wire. Then got as much slack on the wire as I could and fiddled a good bit. All done.

Glad I got this sorted. Cheers for all the help it was very much needed and appreciated:D
