How do I adjust the sunroof correctly?

Featured Replies

I have a problem with the sunroof. It hadn't worked at all for several years when I bought the car, and it took me around 20 minutes to find out that the reason was a bad connection between the plastic box with the engine electronics and the electric engine itself. So now it works, sort of... I can open it fully without any problems, but when I try to close it, it runs around halfway and then it goes back to fully open. If I run it one notch at the time on the button I can get it to close around 50 % of the time. I first thought it was some kind of system to avoid damage to stupid people standing through the sunroof or holding their hands up while closing, but I can't get that reaction from it by holding it back with all my power (and I'm 95 kilos of mostly muscle, so I can't imagine it's because I'm too weak). Is there something I should try here?

If I loosen the motor and run it I can get it to go to both positions without any problems. Does that mean that I need to grease something up there, and what do I hace to dismantle to get to it?

Solved. :) Found the procedure elsewhere.

Any chance of posting a link on here to help others?

Not a link, just a description: Remove the motor, but keep it connected. Turn on the ignition, and go to roof tilted and back to closed twice (in all five turns of the button if you start in closed position on the dial). Then install the motor again with the roof closed. The motor should now e in the zero position (look at the ring gear, it should have a symbol pointing towards a notch in the box).

iirc, you can manually close the sunroof too (see the owners manual for more details). Not sure if that enables adjustment though.

Actually that means that the adjustment has to be done because the motor will be out of sync.
