fuel consumption while idling

Featured Replies

Hi!

I recently noticed that with the engine warm my instant fuel consumption on idle shows 1.2 l/h, while the Yeti with the same engine hade only 0.7 l/h. AC admittedly on, but cool weather so no real need for AC.

What kind of readings are the rest of you getting? I am wondering if I should take the car to the dealer if this is unusually high.

Edit: after turning the AC off I got a reading of 0.8 l/h with more or less cold engine, so it seems to be OK after all.

Hi Raz, my car when is warm my instant consumption on idle without a/c is from 0.6 to 0.8 and with activated a/c is from 1.0 to 1.2 depending ambient temperature. As far as i remember both my previous Octavia 1.6 and Fabia 1.2 12v had the same figures while idling. So i think your car is fine.

P.S. The a/c compressor is not an inverter one and is being activated when ambient temperature is greater than 5 or 6 Celsius degrees.

Thanks for your info. I had thought that since I have the fully automatic AC it would only use the AC when really needed, but I was obviously wrong. I'm getting the same ~0.7 l/h without the AC so I guess everything is fine.

AC normally does more than just chill the air; it also dehumidifies it, and if part of a climate control system, blends how and cold air to achieve your demanded cabin temperature.

Mine doesn't give a fuel consumption readout on tickover.
