Have a look in the Tuning section of our web links for starters. And it would help if you could post details of what year and model Skoda you have, and whether it is UK spec or whatever.

Dear DGW: I bought my skoda in Panama central america, and i just know that it a Octavia Ambiente 1.6cc (101 bhp), i change the exaust system and the air filter, but im still want more.

Thanks for your help 8)

Not being funny, but the easiest way is an engine transplant. You will not get serious power out of the 1.6 and if you try it will be expensive. Youbest bet is to do an engine swap for the 1.8T but this brings with it additional complications in that you will then need to change the suspension and brakes.

If you don'twant to do that then you are limited to the following:

1. Breathing changes, either just replace the air filter (but VAG ones are pretty good anyway) or go the whole hog and have cold air induction. The latter will require what I'm going to suggest as option 2

2. Remap, yes this does work on non-turbo cars although the gains are not a impresive but the cost is similar

3. Change the exhaust.

All of the above will give you probably 120-130 bhp.

4. Change the cams. Will make the car more "peaky" but will increase power. At the same time change the headgasket and get the head ported/gas flowed. You will probably liberate another 20bhp from this.

As I say it will not be cheap. Better to find a written off turbo and put that engine and loom in for a similar cost and better performance/driveability.

If its more on the road power you want, why not loose weight (not you, the car :D )? Every 5kg you loose of the weight of the car is the equivalent of 1 extra bhp(eg loose the spare wheel and tools and carry some tyre mousse instead and you save approx 15kg for a 17" alloy). If you loose unsprung weight (ie wheels and tyres, callipers) every 1kg lost there is the equivalent of 2kg of sprung weight. However you can go too far and you should be careful not to upset the ration of sprung to unsprung by too much.

Hope this helps in some way.
