map or not to map? that is the question.....

Featured Replies

wondering whether to re-map my octavia 4x4R its the 1.8 20v turbo petrol pumping out a healthy 150bhp, its at 130k so im wondering will a re-map kill it or make it more efficient and more powerful? im not after big power just a bit more and ive heard that re-mapping can improve mpg, which would be nice........ any advice on where to get it done if it is a good idea? im in the midlands

If it's healthy, then there shouldn't be too many engine issues. It's the brakes that'd worry me. More power = more speed to scrub off before a corner. Maybe someone else with a 4x4 can comment on the brake issue?

edit - what does the R stand for?

Re "re-mapping can improve mpg"

This is only true in the case of turbo charged or super charged diesel engines due to the fact that diesel engines do not have to adhere to the same precise "stoichiometeric" air/fuel ratio's that petrol engines do to stay within narrow "rich and lean" flammability limits.
