Oil Change

Featured Replies

I changed the oil and filter in my Yeti today, the old fashioned way ie "took sump plug out to drain" as I like to be sure ALL the old stuff is out. All went easy enough until taking the filter out, it's ok to undo, but lifting it out is not the easiest thing. Why do car makers come up with brilliant designs, and then put things in the most ridiculous places.

Anyone else done an oil change? what did you think of the access to the filter?

Yeah the filters are getting pretty interesting, and I get half an hour to carry out a 10k service, not a chance.

Hi, if that is the filter between the dipstick and orange clip then it's the easiest access I've ever seen. Why can't they all be like that?

I seem to remember the Skoda Estelle 120 being as obvious and easy as that. Oil change took no time at all. My dad taught me all that sort of stuff on my first car (an estelle 120L) and then Skoda went and made the cars really customer proof and I've neevr changed the oil since :giggle:

Yes, that is it and its the easiest access I have ever seen too.

I have yet to change the oil, but no doubt they have managed to make the sump plug totally inaccessible!

It's not too bad, as with most cars these days you have to drop the plastic tray under the engine, 4 torx screws each side, 3 at the back ( different size to side ones ) I prefer to do it via the sump then I know all the old oil is drained. This is due to having a BMW 320 Touring serviced at a proper BMW dealer some years ago where they used the dipstick suction method, the guy who did it must have been having an off day, or extended tea break. Anyway didn't check how much had come out, whacked in the proper amount of new oil, and lo and behold it was almost an inch above the MAX mark on dipstick. The tech was severely reprimanded and I was refunded the service charge, but how many people would have checked the oil level? Since then I've never trusted a dealer service, how can you tell they have done what is in the service schedule??????
