Is this normal?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, hope you can advise.. Now this is the first diesel car I have ever owned as well as being my first turbo car, my question is when the temperature is at a good reading if I put my foot down quite a lot of smoke comes out of the exhaust. Is that normal? to put the record straight this car does not get thrashed but I noticed this and I keep trying it to see if it was just a 1 off.

It is normal, especially if you don't drive brisk all the time. They need a good shove to clear out sometimes.

Thanks, just out of curiosity does the VRS have a diesel particulate filter?

Nope.

If it's just a puff of black smoke and then clears up, it's pretty normal :)

Nice one, thought something was going wrong with it... thanks guys.

I heard the thingy in the front drop-down exhaust pipe called a catalytic converter and a particulate filter from this site, frankly I don't know the difference.

Ignorance is bliss sometimes. LOLemoticon-0136-giggle.gifemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

As to smoke when you slam the throttle pedal down, well it's a diesel innit, they all do at some point.

If it does it all the time, then no it's not normal.

Either something is wrong (like a boost leak) or it's been badly remapped and is overfuelling.
