SDHC 8GB not recognised by Columbus

Featured Replies

I have copied most of my iTunes library (drag and drop) onto a PNY 8GB SDHC card and when I pop the card into the Columbus slot the screen says 'Reading Data - Please Wait' for about 2 seconds and then goes back to nothing. When I choose Aux as my source, the SD Card option is greyed out, telling me that the card and / or its contents are not being recognised? I am satisfied that the songs are on the card.

Searches on here have thrown up either that cards more than 2GB cannot be used without a system upgrade, or that any card up to 32GB can be used? I'm confused and frustrated. Car is a July 2010. The Columbus handbook is no help either.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

Did you convert your iTunes library to mp3 format. I use a 16gb card with mines and have had no issues but I did convert my files.

Thanks for the speedy reply. No, I didn't convert them. How do I do that? Can I do it with the tunes that are now on the card or do I need to do it at the iTunes stage? Am I right to assume that the Columbus / Bolero only support MP3 files?

Cheers.

They also support wma files but both types need to be unprotected.

There are many different software (also known as firmware) revisions Columbus, if yours has an early revision then it will only support sd cards up to 2 gb capacity. Later revisions have the ability to support sdhc cards.

There should be a setting somewhere on the computer you are using to transfer the music onto the sd card which will convert the music into mp3 or wma format before transferring.

Thanks guys. Currently going through the weary process of converting my iTunes library to MP3 format.

It will be worth it in the end.

Edit: now tested with the first few files copied across - successfully!! Fantastic to finally have control of my tunes through Maxidot!

(so an 8GB card with MP3 files is fine with a summer '10 Columbus for reference)

Your help is much appreciated chaps!

Cheers, Dunc.

If you highlight the tracks on your iTunes library and right click, you'll find in the drop down box that you can convert to MP3.

Open an "MP3" folder on your desktop and simply right click and cut them into it. It doesn't take long but, if you copy them rather than cutting them you end up with double the amount of tracks in the library obviously
