SKoda Fabia 1.2 silverline 2003 Coil pack help

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I`m back again.....more probs!! I first posted on here in early August re the engine management light staying on, well it went off on its own. So I put the car in for a full service with my local garage, they said I had a slight blow on the front exhaust and slight corrosion on the back box, but it was ok for now.

A few days later the darned light came on again but the whole car was vibrating whilst ticking over and It had no power....phoned the garage and they new exactly what the problem was.....the coil pack on one of the plugs had gone, so i took it in and they replaced it at a cost of £65. GREAT I thought, now I can enjoy driving this car instead of being on pins over it. THIS DID NOT LAST....The light is back on and there is a very slight vibration on idle.......So.....Ive decided to replace the other 2 and here is where I need the help of all you clever chaps out there,

Where do I buy these coil packs from?

And..... is this a job I could do myself??

I watched the mechanic pull the broken one off......does this mean that they just push back on??

Also are these coil packs a different model number for each plug.....or do I just buy 2 the same??

Sorry if I sound a bit daft but its a long time since I donned my ovies and got the spanners out lol

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

Lavinia

I'd reckon that you need the car scanned for logged faults, and if that points to a or another coil being faulty, then yes replace it either again or for the first time if its not the one that has just been replaced. Personally I'd only ever buy these coils from a VAG dealer - Skoda or VW or Seat any of these cars with that engine model and age will use the same coils and they should be selling only the latest variation or mod state of that item. All the coils on that engine model type will be the same part number - ie not a differant part number for each cylinder. But first of all either find someone that will scan the car for faults or buy yourself one from somewhere like Gendan for £40 or so - they are very easy to use and will decode any engine faults logged.

Hi

Thanks for your help, to purchase a scanner myself, what exactly would I be looking for....(product name or description) and would i understand the fault codes?

The coil pack I have just had replaced I paid extra to get the genuine part, but I cant be sure if thats what I got.

I cant afford to be throwing money at this car so I have decided to become more proactive, and to take on some of the maintenance myself which is what I did in my younger days on less complicated cars though lol. So I will purchase the scanner if I know what I`m looking for, so any info is much appreciated,

Many Thanks

Lavinia
