1.2 TSI Idle speed on "cold" start

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 2010 Skoda Fabia 1.2 TSI (85bhp). I have noticed that when I start the car from 'cold' (i.e. when it's not been in use within the past few hours) then the revs go up to approx 1400 rpm (sometimes nearer 1700), then the engine idles at around 1200 rpm for about 15 seconds, and then the revs drop away down to about 700 rpm.

When the engine is idling at this higher than normal amount (1200rpm) then it is "rougher" sounding then when it is idling at it's normal 700rpm, or when you sit and hold the revs at 1200 rpm.

I'm just wondering if this is something I just happen to have noticed, or if it is something I should be worried about and be taking a trip to the Skoda dealer?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

That's quite normal, no need to worry :)

Hi i have the same happen to mine it like choke coming on sometimes when running temp. Same rough when rev. sometimes when idle at lights and i go to set off it stalls probably cos it idle at 700 rpm. I got told of dealer idle at 700rpm this saves fuel (eco rubbish) so now i try to blip throttle before setting off.

I never noticed mine doing that, i will look next time i get in it.

You will notice it more as we go closer to autumn and winter. The revs will stay marginally higher on a cold morning for longer.

I find the 700rpm tickover one of the worst aspects of this car...its nonsense and has been said unless you artificially increase the revs you are in danger of causing it to stall..Asked the dealer to slightly increase tick over speed, apparantly its factory set and they cant change it like they used to be able to do...all to do with emmissions and the ridiculous EU     yet again

If anybody knows a way round it to lift the revs I`m all ears
