OIL LEAK ON MY VRS SEEMS TO BE ENDING UP ON MY GEARBOX HOUSING

Featured Replies

hi i have a small oil leak on my vrs 1.8t seems to appear overnight a very small drop. seems to leak ontogearbox housing.

i heard that the VVT seal can go on these engines. does anybody know where this is located so i can check it. plus is it easy to change.

any help would be great. of course it might not be coming from there but it seems that this is common to leak down onto the gearbox.

thanks

Check that the gearbox end cam cover bolts have some torque on them and aren't just finger tight.

In the cam cover, at the gearbox end. Frankly, if you had to ask this, I'd suggest you check out your local technical college and see if they offer evening classes in car maintenance.

Ok, the oil leak must be coming from somewhere. Oil will only run or drip down unless it's being sprayed under pressure. Follow the leak up to the top end, and whatever's there must be holed, loose, porous, or sealed by a dodgy gasket. It's pretty much impossible to advise you further without physical access to the car or good, clear, well-exposed photos (no 2MP cameraphone images need apply) showing the top of the run, remembering that this may be under something.

i had this not long ago and it was the rocker gasket
