Run on flat tyres on standard vRS rims?

Featured Replies

Got what I thought was a bargain but turns out they are run on flat tyres, can these be safely fitted to Octy rims as a pair or are they a no no?

Thanks in advance...

I believe the rims are different on run flats so they will be no good.

The tyre will still fit on the same rim correctly, it is just a feature of the tyre.

When it goes flat, it specifically deforms outwards to protect the rim, and lets you drive to the hard shoulder without wheel damage (although it permanently damages the tyre just like any other).

The tyre should say on the side wall what size/type of wheel it is designed to be mounted to - if in doubt check with your local tyre fitter :)

Thanks for replies - think 'll return them, the vendor didn't state they were run flat and the model number reffers to a standard tyre.

!!!!!!!!DO NOT FIT THESE EVER ON A CAR NOT DESIGNED FOR THEM!!!!!!!

Run flats are designed to run as a normal tyre even with a puncture over a short distance to get you to safety or the local tyre fitters to get it repaired or replaced.

A car built to have them will have sensors built into the car to tell it when a tyre is becoming deflated and a warning light to warn you the driver.

Should a run flat be fitted on a non run flat car and you were to pick up a puncture you possibly wouldn't even know as they drive almost the same as when not punctured.

The first thing you may know of q puncture is when the tyre shreds off the rim at 70+ which is never a good thing.
