Going to look at a fabia vrs tomorrow things to look for?

Featured Replies

Hi there

i used to have a skoda fabia 1.4mpi, then changed to a honda civic coupe. Could do with a diesel now really, off to look at a fabia vrs 54 reg with about 55,000 on the clock. Anything to look for or check? I know of the problem with the washer jet leaking. What is the problem with the back door seals? How many miles do you do to a tank? 500? i was struggling to get 350 in the honda.

Cheers Dan

i went from a Honda Civic Sport 1.6 to a vrs and i get 500 at least! if you drive nice! :D

sounds good to me! i was looking at the civic sport, but i think now i really need a nice laid back diesel that can do many miles to a tank :)

i normally do about 450 to a tank, but i rarely get down to having the fuel light on to be fair. I have done 500 on a tank, but you have to be really cautious.

Leaky rear doors - i would advise you flick through the sticky. Basically check the rear carpets to see if they're wet, and if it's rained you can check on the seals too. Not something to be put off by, just something to fix!

Expansion tank mod = I get 600+ miles sometimes...

Mainly motorway...

Last two fillups i have got 1300 miles..

lol i got 454miles to a full tank on my 1.4 mpi last week.

i would have hoped a vrs would have got 450miles abusive driving.. more like 570m to a tank if driven sensibly

quite a lot to look for mate,,,,,

rear door seals give up and let water in to the rear footwells, have a sniff and feel around the carpets, feel under the door, repair is easy enough but may get you a few quid off

when the car is cold and you are sure it hasnt moved for at least 12 hours, take off the expansion cap, if any pressure is released , walk away, If the tank smells of fumes, walk.

Take off the plastic engine cover and see if there are any oily deposits coming from the rear of the engine block on the left hand side as you look at it, there is a valve there that blocks up, chep to fix but still worth a few quid off.

check the rear washer works, pipe slips off easily

check fuel flap opens

prob missed some,,, in my experience fab vrs's,,, you either get a good one or you get a dog !!

Could you explain why you do this and what the problem is if there is pressure? And what would to happen if the car had been driven in the last 12 hours.
