Is about 430 miles to a tank of diesel about right?

Featured Replies

I get about 450 per tank, but usually fill up with about 50 miles left according to the trip. I mostly do long motorway/ dual carriage way drives and get about 55mpg.

The best I've ever managed from a fully brimmed tank (including expansion tank) is 640 miles with 15 miles left on the range indicator.

The last full tank returned 580 miles, due to some enthusiastic driving.

To the guys getting 300 miles per tank, is that without filling the expansion tank and booting the car everywhere? I'd hope so!

Think mine's a combination of no expansion tank and short journeys. I can get it to around 230 miles if I boot it everywhere too

I don't do that anymore. My bank manager doesn't approve.

Where can you get the expansion tank mod done and how much does it cost?

As far as I'm aware every vRS has them fitted pal, if you look at the three o'clock position inside the fuel filler cap thingy, there is a

black plastic lever. Push that in with the fuel nozzle and you'll then be able to fill the expansion tank with fuel.

I think you can get an extra five or so litres in. However, from what I've read it is only advisable to do this if you're about to undertake a journey after fuelling up.

The expansion tank is there for when the fuel expands in high temperatures, and if it expands when the expansion tank is already full it will damage the seals on the

fuel tank.

Personally I always brim it just before a decent journey.

Hope that helps

You're right, it's there alright! I'll try it next time I'm at the station and see what happens... Cheers, by rights that should add another few miles range...?

I get about 400 miles to a full tank including expansion tank with a mixture of driving I have noticed that my brakes are sticking will that dramatically decrease mpg

Yes

My previous car (Polo tdi) rear brakes were 'dragging' not much but enough that I could tell. It was like driving round with the handbrake very slightly on. I used to get around 430 miles to a tank of fuel and it was this way for about a year. Eventually I got it fixed and was amazed I could get around 100 miles more!! Get it fixed!!!

I'm going to take car of my vrs better than I looked after the polo :-)

I have a short trip to work each day and do very little in the way of motorway driving. One tank (39-40 litres) = 350 miles everytime pretty much. Around 38mpg which I'm happy with tbh :) once warm I don't hang about

My last tank of fuel, with the extra 10 litres from the Vent trick and using Fuelsave.

I got about 675 Miles for the whole tank, I usually get about 400-500 per tank with my fat right foot.

This was commuting back and forth the 22 miles round trip in and out of Bristol, a bit of traffic, but I was cheating and turning the engine off when stationary.

I have a feeling if I was to drive a steady 60mph on a one of trip with no stops that I could get 1,000 miles from a vent trick tank. So I will be looking out for a Scotland trip soon to test my theory.

Yep should add a few more miles on, probably another 80 miles, dependant on driving speed and style I'd guess.

Just remember not to fill it right up and then not drive it, wouldn't want to risk ruining those seals.

I've had the fuel light come on as early as 450 ish miles after driving quickly throughout the tank of fuel, but usually manage to make it to

520-570 before it pops on. That is driving pretty conservatively though.

I just fill my car up when it gets to 3/4, don't like having less than that just in case hah, costs about £15-£20 /100 miles for me

Best way to check is on how much fuel you're putting in. 9 gallons is about 40.86 litres. So if you're doing 450 miles to 40.86 litres you're doing 50mpg, which ain't great, but depends a lot on the type of roads you're driving, and how heavy your right foot is.

I think the figure for combined fuel consumption in the vRS is about 53mpg, so I'd aim for that personally, unless you are only using motorways, and some NSL roads with decent traffic flow.

Hope that helps you to quantify how well you're doing a bit more easily. I think I normally fill up with between 8-9 gallons. Check on fuelly to see what other Fabia vRS's are doing, can be useful, and make you feel better too in some cases :giggle:

Hi mate, I think my brakes are sticking on too, my Dad works for Skoda and has asked me to look at the brake sensor (nder the pedal?) what was your problem?

Got to the root of my problem the other day. One of the pins that allows the rear caliper (mine was the offside one) to slide in and out was seized. I removed it, cleaned it and greased it and the problem has now gone, along with higher than usual mpg figures.

Yeah there has been no expense spare really with maintaining my vrs, the brake sticking has only been recently, the latest one I got to sort is creaking from ns strut, I got the weekend off next week so I'll sort out the brakes then

I'm going to take car of my vrs better than I looked after the polo :-)

Right, I did a 200 mile run lasy week, mostly motorway. Looking at the computer, it never got above 48mpg average. I kept a steady right foot and admittedly when stopping and starting for roadworks this impacted on it, but this doesn't seem right. I reset the counter on joining the motorway and 100 miles later, it was still hovering around 48mpg! Any ideas folks?

Update and I'm panicing!

I filled it to the brim and did the expansion tank mod as well. From the roadside, I've done 160 miles and the fuel guage is still at full with the computer telling me there's another 405 miles to go.

Whilst the idea of a bottomless pit for a fuel tank have I broken it???

Count yourself lucky you get 430 from a tank, I'm currently on 332.2 and I'm just below 1/4 of a tank left that is without doing the expansion tank I must add. Getting Revo taken off on Friday so will do another comparison then :)

Bloody hell, I'm glad I didn't have a Revo map done! Just jittery since I've never done the expansion tank trick before and thought I'd ballsed something up... Have I?

No nothing wrong with that at all

I'm getting around 480-500 miles for a tank (06 vrs BLT engine), the vrs is usually only used for my work trip (30 miles each way on dual carrigeways), and generally with the flow of other traffic although I have been known to 'stretch it's legs'

Computer tells me I average 66mpg over the course of a tank, and if I 'go careful' can get the computer to say 79mpg on a single journey by the time I get to work. Obviously I'm getting no where near that so the computer is way out!

No mate, fear not. Once I've brimmed mine, including expansion tank, the needle doesn't move until I've done 200 miles or so (dependant on driving style).

I usually get to the half tank marker having done 350 ish miles.

Its something like an extra 8 litres you'll have got in there, so it'll take a few more miles for the needle to shift

Update. 180 miles, needle moved. Panic over!

Thank you all who replied for the reassurance.

Mine generally only does 430 as well.

My mate and I went up to old Trafford the other day & on a round trip of 530 miles I had to stop for fuel at 450 - a gain of 20 miles...yay :-(
