sky/freesat question

Featured Replies

Hi all

I've already got a Sky multi Room subscription as we have 2 boxes already. I've got a third for my son's room. Is it possible to get a viewing card from Sky which will allow this 3rd box to be used as a freesat receiver?

or will I need to pay them another tenner a month?

Just remove your card, and you've effectively got a freesat box.

I think you can get a proper freesat card from Sky, but i believe thats about £30 (although it was years ago i got one)

Didn't think you could get all the channels if you did that? All the free channels I mean......

iT WAS £20 WHEN I CHECKED LAST YEAR , BUT YOU CAN GET A FREESAT HD RECEIVER IN SAINSBURY AT PRESENT FOR £35

If you have the wiring already, i would try and get a dedicated freesat box.

Was remembering last night, and while freesat in sky boxes works, you still get ALL the sky channels on the planner, and spend half your time looking at "To upgrade, phone xxxxx".

You can get a "freesatfromsky" card which will give you access to all the channels, without the card you will find some channels, like ch5, e4, film4, etc won't display on the Sky box.

Otherwise get a "freesat" box which does not need a card at all, but has a slightly different range of channels, you get things like Dave I believe which isn't on freesatfromsky.

To avoid the "to upgrade, phone xxxx" message, set up the channels which you do get as fravourite and use that to scroll through. I have freesatfromsky and I basically watch the standard bbc, itv (3+4, ch5, e/more4 and that is about it.

Your son might see more of a range of the adult 900 channels on sky though :giggle:

Kids are so lucky these days, In my day we had to make do with what we found in the bushes by the shops

Although I'm not sure if watching "northern babes" can be classed as lucky :giggle::giggle:

Or the odd Daily Sport which had fallen out of a builders van!

Talking of which, when I bought this place I found what I guess was a lads stash of magazines in the roof space. They had no dates on them (Escort, Reader Wifes, Hussle?, iirc). I guessed from their "hair" cuts they were from the mid 80s to late 80s.

A mate bought a second hand Saab 96 once (in late 70s) that had a stash of them in the boot - the seller made contact a week later saying that he left some things in the car, and asked if they could be returned - what a brass neck!
