Rear speakers

Featured Replies

Hi, my rear speakers in my vRS don't work + antenna seams bad.. Wondering if someone has any tips for me witch can help me diagnose the problem?

Regards from Iceland, Emil.

antenna..... does your car still have a factory fit HU, or has it been changed for an after market unit? If it has been changed you will need a power injector to supply power to the amplifier in the base of the aerial.

Speakers - are they plugged in at the rear? Do they would if you try driving them from another source (something other than the HU). Check the cabling at the back of the HU.

I'm not really sure if I have an aftermarket antenna, but where would a power injector be installed at? I could replace the antenna if that less of an hassle..

As for the speakers yes, I have checked the cabling at the back of the HU everything seemed to be in order, need to try to drive the speakers from another source, and/or check if the wires that connect to it are getting any voltage..

I think what mbames means is have you changed the radio, or do you still have the symphony head unit. Aftermarket radios don’t have built in amplifiers for the antenna.

Plus changing the screw-in section of the aerial would not help as the amplifier part is in the base, which is attached to the roof.

If an aftermarket HU has been fitted then you will need to fit a power injector behind the headunit in the dash. They generally source their power from the blue wire in the ISO loom (powered/electric aerial), and then you end up with an aerial connection route as such:

HU -> Power injector -> aerial cable -> aerial base (at back of car) -> screw-in aerial

Could you stick a scope across the rear speaker cables (also at the rear of the HU too)... that being if you are lucky enough to have a scope.

Yes I have an aftermarket HU, could you give me a link to an power injector that I could use? Thanks..

What do you mean stick a scope across the rear speaker cables (what is a scope), sorry English is just my second language..

Thanks very much for your responses.

Some thing like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-VAG-Aerial-Booster-Amplified-Antenna-Lead-VW-Cars-/370534433142 I think that is a UK seller, but it should point you in the correct direction.

scope = oscilloscope

Problems solved, will be getting a new antenna. It was broken, and the wires at the rear speakers had been cut because there was some massive sound system there before, thanks for your help!

So thats why I can't get the bloody radio lol.

Just ordered one for myself.

Where does the bare wire cable connect?

I fail to understand why you would need an oscilloscope to test the rear speakers. A simple 9v battery would suffice.

And like anybody who actually has an oscilloscope is going to be asking such simple questions in the first place. I'm fairly certain if there was, then they wouldn't have a clue how to use it (or a signal generator) anyway. :giggle:

Sorry, just bustin' yer balls a little. ;)
