Trolley Jack suitable for lifting a Yeti

Featured Replies

After 20 years stirling service my old Halfords jack will no longer extend to its max height despite a full reservoir. Decided therefore to get a replacement and thinking of getting either a;

Sealey 2 Ton short chassis 1100CXD

or

Sealey 3 Ton standard chassis 1153CX

Think the 2 ton one is borderline on fully lifting the Monster to change a wheel with a max height between 375-390mm depending on the literature you read but has a handy storage case and is lighter and more compact. The 3 Ton will be more than capable but heavier and £15 more expensive, oh and no case.

Anybody used either of these to lift a Yeti and any thoughts generally on Sealey good or bad.

Thanks,

TP

Had a lidl one for about 3 years cost about £20 done sterling service on the build of a kit car, and also the fitting of a tow bar on the yeti(rear wheels off etc ) and also at the front end with trying winter boots etc!

If you go this route, get a non swivel head type(pump handle) as tyhe latter seems flimsy

Can I resurrect this thread and ask TP what you decided on and if you're happy? Anyone else with any advice or experience of a suitable trolley jack? Thanks in advance.

Mozart.

I don't understand why the 2 tonne one may be insufficient.

Say the Yeti weights 1500Kg and say 65% of the weight is at the front.

On this simple reckoning....1500Kg multiplied by 65% = 975Kg

So well within limits.....or what am I missing?

I have a halfords 4x4 jack, rated to 2.25 tons and have used that to jack up a Honda CRV with no problem. Also perfectly fine for my Octy and Polo.

ok lifting front in totality, but would you do that? normally lift a corner at a time!

If the purpose is only to change a wheel then remember that the spare wheel option comes with a wheel jack that's capable of lifting the car anyway.

If a wheel jack made of chocolate from Skoda can lift the car for the purposes of changing a wheel then a trolley jack of any description would be more than up to the job I'd say.

If you want to lift the whole car then you'd still only be lifting one corner at a time as others have said and therefore you'll only be lifting a percentage of the car's weight at any one time.

More concerned about the height extension limit than the lifting capacity, with the Yeti having a raised ride hight.

Anyway went for the Sealey 3 Ton jack in the end and been more than happy with it, although it is a hefty peace of kit. Can even get it under the Fabia Monte Carlo, which sits 51mm lower to the ground than the Yeti :giggle:

Oh that's with the ply sheet under the jack, which I use for stabilisation/free movement of the wheels and hockey puck pad.

Tim, thank you. I was more than happy with the weight limit. . l missed your point on the lifting height. I continue to use my 30 plus year old Hills.

Sorry messed up the quote. The puck idea is excellent but I have a concrete drive so no need for ply.
