Big power from a 1.4tsi!?!?!? read this

Featured Replies

Someone who has alot of money to chuck about seems to be well on his way to a very high power 1.4 tsi engine

It also explains why there 230bhp is a boundary when tuning the 1.4tsi

To be honest since I started to get into tuning my car I realized that the amount of bull being said from tuners and tuning shops is just mind blowing. Of course there are a few professionals with exceptional knowledge on the subject but the majority I just can't trust.

So when it comes to people claiming numbers, hp, torque, this and that, and the ego becomes bigger than the earth's equatorial diameter unless I got an inside view and further knowledge on a specific project I take it with a pinch of salt.

At the end of the day numbers don't mean anything as what truly matters is how all that power is delivered on the road and for how long. Finally no one will ever admit that one day that "crazy" car with xxxhp once went kaboom. No one will admit it and that is a side of the tuning process for which no one will give you guarantees.

I really hope this project is true to its numbers cause from any point of view it seems a great inside story as to what makes these TSi engines tick. We can only learn.

Quite right, given enough time, money and modifications big numbers are possible, but for how long. During the 1980’s BMW got 1000bhp+ out of what was basically a modified 1500 cc road car block for their F1 qualifying engines. But that’s all they used the block and at the end of about 4 laps the engine was scrap.

Maybe you can get near to the figure quoated but for how long, at what price and what will be left of the original motor at the end of it.

Me I would sooner save the time and money and buy a more powerful car to start with.

Why not just spend the money buying a fast(er) car in the first place? It's all very well throwing thousands at an engine, but what about chassis, brakes etc? I sort of get styling to make something that reflects you, but spending stupid money just seems nuts to me.

Especially in the long run a lot of it seems over optimistic in terms of returns

I guess it's all about breaking records and proving its achievable just for the hell of it. I say if that's what he wants to do then good on him. Will be very interesting to see the outcome :)

yes i would squirm to think of how much it is costing him to do all that work! probably more than it would cost to get a mint used Nissan GTR which i doubt it will ever be better than.

The GTR is an example of affordable supercar that it practical, usable, actually fairly economical(20-30mpg under normal driving), with a boot and space for rear passengers...

and faster than most cars on the road...

but i guess if he wants to be different then why not.

Being serious some of his mods could help us long term but I wouldn't want much more than 220bhp

Amen brother

I'm aiming for 300 bhp, nice and round figure I'd say. Will have the handling and brakes for it aswell ;).

And if everybody would think "why didn't he put those money at another car", then we wouldn't have as awesome cars as "little blue":

Without stating the obvious, there is so much more to life than peak figures.

I'd be tempted to go for 220-250 BHP as/if/when I decided to do stuff to the car, but in honesty, a decent remap which focuses not just on top end, but good mid range improvements....Rear ARB, Decent quality coilovers (Bilstein, KW, Nitron, whatever) and geometry setup with a bigger brake kit would be as far as I'd bother going with a Fabia vrs... even thats a long way to go !

I'm thinking a remap might now be my last job.

I've got a set of KW variant 2's on order as of today and a Whitelind rear ARB.

I'd love a milltek full system more for the fact it's stainless and lighter than the standard system as well as letting car breath better along with an induction kit.

The last thing I want to do is reduce the live of my car as I aim on owning it for more than 5 years, in that time it will be pampered and spoilt with what ever it needs.

Like said by others, peak power is useless unless the car is in control and balanced.

Could a power increase not just be done by changing pulley size on supercharger and running bigger turbo so the extra power from the supercharger cause the turbo spin up quicker and reduce lag??

The blog seems gd but loads and pages and loads of people talking poo

e tuners have mapped an golf 1.4tsi to gd figures running on 95

seeing as the 1.4 tsi engines are well the same could you not with prob a few little adjustments do wot the golf boys are doin??

I think more needs to be done for the wonderful 1.4 engine and compaines should stop arsing about wit remap/tuning boxes and bring us sumthing that would really bring a smile to owner

I think alot of people aren't keen on pushing the 1.4tsi because of the potential costs of replacing turbo's and superchargers, also the fact that unlike an RB26DETT the 1.4tsi is likely to be someones daily driver therefore reliability and economy is just as important.

If i got a new vRS i think i would have alot of difficultly even persuading skoda uk warranties the advantages of me fitting a larger intercooler seeing as the car runs quite hot.

I think a large intercooler kit would probably be my first mod to a vRS, in an attempt to help the life of the engine. plus it would help later on if i decided to get a map.

in an ideal world i think i would be happy with a forge intake system and large intercooler kit and a downpipe and full stainless system with a remap, i guess that would get me seeing 225bhp.

if i want more power then i won't be seeking it in the form of a skoda estate, i would buy something better suited to the job, like an S2000 and a £3500 supercharger kit that takes it from 241bhp to 400bhp on stock internals revving all the way up to 9200rpm. woooosh
