Rad fan Override

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of fitting an override switch to the Favorit for piece of mind. The plan is to piggy back the rad fan switch with a dash mounted one. I have a spare OE side light switch, but will it handle the current?

Yep should cause no issues. I found replacing the rad switch for a low temp one (from Jorily) meant I never needed to consider adding such a switch - even in the hottest summer traffic jam. I remember what it was like before replacing the switch and needing to switch the blowers on hot full blast :D

Yes I can't see any problems with doing that except to bear in mind that the power to the rad fan is constantly live so if you left it on it would run the battery down, also the radiator fan is not designed to run constantly 100% of the time so it might fail after a period of time... Tbh you would be far better off changing the engien thermostat for low temperature one, the ones from a hot climate Market should be good for it.

I run an extra fan switch on my Felicia rally car, but I use an aftermarket "pull-type" switch.

The old car came with one, and I replicated it in the new car. It's useful to be able to give the engine a little cooling blast of air whilst sitting in queues at the start of stages or going into controls and the like to prevent it getting warmer than ideal before we start a competitive section. Once on a stage and moving, the temperature seems to stay pretty constant though.

Cheers for the replies. I've fitted the piggyback switch using a spare side light switch I have. The fan does go off with the ignition, which suprised me? The current draw from the motor when running I measured to be 4.6 amps, and the side light switch is rated at 5A so it should be ok, time will tell I suppose! The idea of a lower temperature switch does make sense though, and the manual switch I've fitted could be removed in 5 minutes.

Russ.

No i don't mean a rad fan switch, I meant the engine thermostat, hot climate ones open at a lower temperature, there should be enough flow for the radiator fan to hardly ever come on with that setup.
