PD 160 steep prices!

Featured Replies

Went to my nearest Seat dealer today to price the pipe and trumpet for the PD160 mod. Speacalist cars in Aberdeen wanted £61 for the pipe and £16 for the trumpet. £61 for a short piece of plastic tubing blody hell. Anybody know where I will get it cheaper. Tried ebay

Cheap 2nd hand ones are like rocking horse poo.

Very hard to find :D

Normally go for around the £50 mark 2nd hand nowadays.

Thought about making your own? :wonder:

The price rise has been pretty well documented on here. It's just Seat taking the p*ss, after realising they were being used on other VAG models.

Entire part was around £28 when I bought my first one, what 5 years ago! And the design/revision/part number hasn't changed....

I'm sure it was about £35 when I first looked at this forum. As Wardy says it has become a popular part so SEAT has more than doubled the price of it.

A popular part that don't do ****e.

Think someone should try and get a workshop to make copies up and we have a group buy.

go on then :)

Or just go to B&Q and get some good quality hosing, probably bigger than PD160 intake and make one yourself? Easy enough to do and could get much better airflow. Would also save probably £70 too lol

Not all that easy. The 1.9TDI versions don't have that much space to play with. The PD160 rubs on some of the pipework as it is.

Everyone will have their opinion. Is the mod easily and cheaply reversible? How much time/effort to implement it?

Would rather waste £5-£10 on trying it potentially doing it on the cheap then pay £80 for the Seat set-up. God loves a tryer lol

It's such a joke.

I'm surprised (and relieved) it's not the same with the LCR splitter. Although I bet it's more expensive than it was 2 years ago.

I'm lucky I got my PD160 for my Polo for £40!

Save your money from buying this expensive plastic add-on gimmick, the standard Fabia VRS would show no effect to performance or efficiency. (Pile of expensive poo) emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

No matter what air sized air intake you have, when it gets to the air intake on engine it will be instantly restricted by air intake design. (No brainer)

I'm afraid that too has been hiked up !

£39 all in now.

Compared to £21/£22 a few years ago :(

Bull ****!!

May keep that off my Polo as well then.

I kind of agree. Up to around the £30 mark and possibly butchering the existing intake pipe for its connector to the airbox and dremelling out the existing trumpet to allow more air through.

I also looked into this pipe, i have then heard/scene on other threads just about drilling holes in the front of the old intake :/

then why would the tight arse manufacturer make the part..? they wouldn't spend 1p more than they absolutely have to

I don't know if its the case with the VRS, but some manufacturers tune the intakes for a certain sound, or to reduce noise overall.

+1, they would bother if they didn't need to

Gimmick? Amusing response. It's a wider pipe - how is that a gimmick?

And as said, why fit it to the Cupra PD160 unless it was required for an increase in airflow to the airbox?

Anyone tried any local breakers?

the 160 ibiza`s are pretty rare tbh you`d have to be very lucky to find one.

Matt

I have a couple of breakers near me so going to have a look. This £80 business is a joke!!

Yep, don't think I've ever seen a Cupra TDI in a breakers, but worth a look round...

Best idea...

Buy the trumpet for £15

Then get some air ducting hose off ebay in the correct diameter and a couple of jubilee clips! Should cost less than £30 all in
