2006 octavia tdi axr code revs high 4000 rpm 80mph

Featured Replies

It's he first axr code I've had all my other ones are alh. It's Wierd seems awful high revs for the speed 60mph is 3000rpm and 80mph is 4000rpm.

Plugged it into vag com and there is no fault codes and it seems to rev fine and drives good can't understand it. Any ideas thanks.

That does sound rather high I think mine is around 2000rpm in 5th for about 60mph, and about 2250 for 70, although I am a different engine code (2001 110TDI ASV)

may have had a replacement petrol gear box, or somehow (although very unlikely) clutch is slipping at those high revs

I was wondering that - guess someone with a petrol needs to say if they sound like ratios from a petrol engined gearbox.

Don't think it's had a replacement box from a petrol but I'll check the number where are thy located on the gearbox.

A spot of googling suggests that this is a 100bhp PD engine, I suppose this is a rather rare engine in a mkI, so it could have had something changed and ended up with the wrong gearbox or something fitted.

Is this a taxi by any chance?

One thought - is the speedo accurate? Had a Mini once which had the speedo drive swapped with the wrong part at some point so it under read by 25%.

The gearbox code will be stamped on the casing

My vRS petrol is doing approx 2750rpm at 70mph (indicated - actually about 65/66mph)

I checked my diesel this morning, 70mph (indicated) is about 2350rpm, with similar actual figures from a GPS.

It is indeed a taxi we have several of them. When driving car back home we had another one of our skoda's revving at 2000rpm at 60mph along side and this one is revving at 3000 I'll have a look at gearbox codes later on. It was quite a professional taxi outfit it was purchased from the guy owned 140 octavias so can't see them bodging a petrol box on to it. I'll keep this updated as to see what's wrong!

After a bit of investigation today were fairly sure it's the gear box. Now can I use a standard 90bhp gearbox on this pd engine or does it have to be a specific one? Many thanks

IIRC someone was looking at changing the normal 5 speed box for a 6 speed one from the 130PD mkI and you were also looking at changing the drive shafts and other bits, so not a straight swap, I suppose it depends on what box is in there at the moment.
