Grand tour of Europe

Featured Replies

So me and my mates did a grand tour of Europe the last couple of weeks.

Thought it'd be amusing to get some livery going on with the car so we went for this!

Those two pics are in Verdun in France, visited the First World War sites there as well as the cemetaries. Very moving stuff.

Then to Bavaria and the home of the Nazi party in Obersalzburg and Berchtesgaden.

Then all the way across from there to the Nurburgring across Germany and into France. Stopping eventually in Normandy to visit the sites of the D Day landings.

This is Omaha beach, right next to the massive American cemetary at Coleville.

Lastly we went from Normandy back to Belgium to visit Ypres and the Menin Gate and watch the last post. Every day at 8pm they have the ceremony to honour the lost British Commonwealth dead who have no formal grave.

The bombs on the side of the car grew to around 22 in the end. They had the destinations written on.

I suggest if anyone is thinking of doing a holiday like it, bloody do it! Second year running we've done it now and it only get's better!

Oh and I managed to get GPS confirmed speed of 150mph on the way to the Nurburgring (on an unrestricted section obviously), still had 1k left worth of revs too. I'm sure these are good for 160mph. Sod the standard figures!

Just thought i'd share if any one was interested. :)

Jonny.

150mph, nice! Is yours standard? Maybe the extra weight of the car being loaded up with your mates and gear lowered the suspension slightly and reduced the air resistance!

Looks like a really good trip, I'd like to do something similar one day. Did you drive your car around the 'ring? Did you go in convoy with any other cars?

Nice trip. Looking at doing something similar next year.

Nice Love the livery :D

very nice, great holiday, I take it you camped most of the time?

Looks like they finished the renovations on the teahouse, it was covered in Scaff when we went last year, along with a million yanks, talking absolute ****e :giggle:

Its not quite standard no; Motech performance X-map, 4 bar FPR, Forge 007P, Neuspeed induction, full cat back exhaust system and a now chipped satin black front grille. Haha. It was seriously loaded though, 3 of us, camping gear, 30 litres of beer, food and then a full tank of fuel. Rough guess would be around 220bhp but it does shift some. I was just suprised how well it does go on the top end, i'm sure it'll do 160mph as I say.

As for driving round the ring, hell no. Its far too much to insure yourself properly and well, it was absolutely ****ing it down unfortunately. They had an ADAC event on though with loads of old cars going round. Good to watch at least. We were going to take a couple of cars but the petrol costs were too massive. We spent around £550 just on petrol, as its actually more expensive over there at the minute, except Luxembourg!

Yeah we camped the whole time, best way to do it for scrimping! Plus some of the sites you can find are very nice and have good facilities.

Haha, it did have the same amount of Yanks there. But an incredible view and is well worth going to just to see Hitlers polished brass lift and marble tunnel!
