Revo remap queries/issues

Featured Replies

Ok I decided to get Revo'd yesterday. Picked my car up after work and it felt slower than when it went in. I know it takes a few days to bed in today it felt a bit better but still not what I'd expect and still doesnt feel as good as it did before it was 'mapped'. Also I was under the impression Revo was a smokey map? Mine now smokes less, if at all compared to before :S

Does this sound right? I'm thinking of letting it go for a week and if it's no better then I will be exercising my right to the 30 day no quibble money back guarantee and have it mapped at G&G Motorsport in Lincoln.

Another thing that annoyed me is the white bits of my seats are now dirty after being at the garage.

Advice would be great please.

Engine code is BLT by the way.

A map doesn't need to bed in mate! Was your car mapped before without you knowing? Ie previous owner?

Take it back mate. The massive difference between a map and standard should be obvious straight away!

I wouldn't be happy with the dirty seats either. Have you anyone nearby to compare it with? If you're not happy, get themto return it to stock and go for another mapper that has a good reputation. A few around.

I got Shark to check over my original map before my upgrade just to check nothing had been put on before, its handy to know.

Good luck with it matey.

had the same problem with a revo stage 2 hybrid map....

ended up rr'ing at a measly 195bhp

I'm happy if you want to compare it to my Sharked car.

There is a dyno day up there next weekend as well which will prove how good or bad the revo map is and how it compares with others.

I couldnt tell much of a difference between my Dragon tuning box (160bhp ish) and the Revo 170 map. The power delivery was delivered much better tho and smoother with the 3.5k rev power spike rather than the 'all or nothing' Dragon tuning box. Its not an aggressive map so shouldnt be too smokey any way. Go have a chat to the chap, there should be a little room for tweeking.

I was under the impression that a Revo diesel map was a generic map so cant be altered? Before I had it done I couldn't notice a drop in power higher up the rev range which is why I thought it may have already been mapped. I know I should have had it on a dyno before mapping but I can't afford it at the minute and I'm going on holiday on Saturday.

Like earlier today on that famous private runway, I had a BMW 5 series behind me (E39) which I'm guessing will have been either 525, 528 or 530. I was doing about 80 in 5th, put my fot to the floor and I wasn't leaving him and it didn't feel like it was pulling.

I await the 'courtesy call' from the garage on Monday/Tuesday ;)

You should notice a remap, especially a revo one because they are fairly spiky. Any reputable tuner will check to see if the car is running a map or not before hand anyway.

Matt

i have a standard vrs and am based in lincoln if thats any use to you. Just drop me a pm.

Thanks bud, I may take you up on that offer.

Generic maps are certainly tweakable. Whether to limit torque or to avoid smoke or allow for slight breathing mods or safely take a decat into account.

Question: When was your air filter changed last?

Hi J,

I need to check my air filter, but I'm guessing it *should* have been serviced before I picked it up Wednesday. I am spraying my grille this afternoon so I will lift the lid off the airbox and have a check.

The last Revo mapped Fabia I went out in was sat on the bumper of a 230bhp mk4 Golf 20vt and THAT was rapid, I mean really quick! I don't even get any torque steer which I thought I would/should?

I'd definitely be taking it back mate.

Sorry to say it but surely any reputable tuner would have contacted you to find out what you wanted to do if they found it already had a map on there?

I'll be taking it back next weekend bud, I am on lates all this week at work and finish work when they shut. I can't even get out any earlier as I am going to be the only one there after 4:30.

I thought they would have rung me to be honest. I wish I'd gone on some rollers first now, or done some 30-70 times so I could atleast have an idea how much/if there has been a difference. I still don't understand why it doesn't smoke. Most Revo'd Fabia's I've seen have been quite smokey...and I like a smokey diesel!! Obviously I don't know if it was already mapped there's nothing in the history about it being mapped before. The seat cover thing though, has really narked me!

Even so I'd be phoning them first thing on Monday morning to let them try and explain what's going on.

BTW a smokey diesel is never a good thing. People who say no smoke no poke, that's just tosh. Smoke is unburnt fuel, which means that it's running lean, so EGTs shoot up. As fun as it is to smoke people out, I'd rather have an engine and turbo that lasts :)

I will call tomorrow morning and see if we can get to the bottom of things. I always thought a diesel was designed to run lean? When I said smokey I meant off boost as I understand when on boost there should little if any smoke at all.

A decent map shouldn't be really be smokey at all. Maybe a little bit at WOT but nothing like the plumes that I've seen some cars running.

You should deffo notice the modified map straight away, wen u put ur foot down with the shark map the car pulls nice and smoothly all way to the red line whereas the standard map dies off a lil after 3k revs

  • Author

Mine never died off before after 3k, well I never felt it did anyway. Hmmmm, just hope when they reload the previous map it's the actual one that came off my car.

It was nearer 4,000 rpm that it just died, no more pull after that

Matt

Hi

I have just had a Revo remap on a mk1 Fabia VRS about 2 weeks ago (previously standard), when i picked it up you could instantly tell the difference it just feels quicker in every way, pulls harder for longer, my one concern is the smoke when ragging it a bit, i have been told fitting a pd160 intake reduces it due to getting more air but not sure its going to be worth the £90 to find out, i might have a chat with the garage that did it in Hull to see if it could be reduced at all, i would have rather had a bit less power with no smoke.

I can also only suggest you take yours back, something is obviously not quite right.

Hope you get sorted

Matt

Did you ever get this sorted?

  • Author

No I haven't sorted it yet. Was on the phone at work when the garage called today. Tried calling back twice and no answer. I will try again tomorrow and if there is still no answer I will head down there Saturday morning. It's got a bit better but I still don't think it's right and now it's got a drink problem...20 miles to 1/8 of a tank sat at 60mph for around 10-12 miles and then 30mph for the remainder.... Something definately isn't right.
