Hi Betsy,

I've been on Scoobynet since it started, so this forum is quiet polite in comparison!

Cheers,

Windows now tinted and done by the same tinter who had the original concerns. No problems. Top quality job! and half the price of some who don't even bother to take the glass out to do it properly!

Why would you need to take the glass out??!

I would try another tinter if I was you mate, there is a place by me ( Chester) who are extremely good and I have used them several times.

Who did you use near Chester, out of interest?

Hi JRW,

Only the moving parts of the rear door glass. It ensures you get no problems with the film rolling up when the windows go up and down.

oh right, I see. Mine were fitted below the seal line at the bottom so the seal would never roll the film up when the window was put down.

Decent film from a proper fitter and you won't have any problems. Mine is dark but not limo black from the outside and I have no problems at all seeing through them from inside out. I have seen some carp films that are dark from both sides.

In fact I drove home tonight in the dark and the spray with no issues and for the next 5 or so months I'll be doing the same!

fadenshade of Sheffield. Top bloke - don't be put off by the back street garage and the fact that he doesn't always return your messages.- He knows what he's doing and only uses the best materials. He's done two cars of mine now. If fact he re-did my octy after I got rear ended as I refused to let the main steeler who repaired it arrange for the tinting.

god this just about got is bad as the petrol/diesel is best topic a while back. and as for not doing the life saver look (looking over the shoulder) scares me to hear a person say that on here, and then to say they have IAM, i to have a class 1 but dont use it but when you learn you a drilled to always check all blind spots.

you're missing the point. Firstly I can't see anything over shoulder due to b pillar and my seat position and secondly if you have driven a facelift octavia or a4 with correctly adjusted mirrors then you would know that there is no blind spot. So please get your facts correct before preaching you have x,y or z.

blind spots on all motors and no i did not miss any point, If there is no blind spots why is there now cars with blind spot warning systems on them.

Well as I say try the mirrors on mine or an a4 and see. I also drive a van so again pointless looking over shoulder at a bulkhead.

ok :wonder:

I've had dark tints on the rear window & behind the c pillars for security on a few cars & it made reversing in the dark in poorly or unlit areas a bit more tricky. Had a lighter tint on my last OctII estate & it was no problem - much the same as my current Scout with it's factory tinted glass.

Wasn't the change in the law making it illegal to tint front door windows down to accident investigators highlighting them as a factor in some accidents where drivers had pulled out of junctions & not seen a motorbike?

ok :wonder:

Yes, argue all you like. Confirmed it multiple times on my journey to work yesterday :giggle:

Inside line and cars overtaking, can see them in wing mirror and as soon as i loose sight of car/bike/lorry in my mirror it is about half way down my side window.

Same story in my van.

All is required is check of mirrors and glance to the right through the window.

:dull:

My problem with dark tints on the rear window (& would have been same years ago when I had a van) is seeing through the rear window when it's dark or poorly lit & you just have the light from your reversing lights - in some car parks (like our local shop) I worried about pedestrians walking behind me when I'm reversing - in a van they are in that 'if you can't see my mirrors I can't see you' zone - in a car with dark tints they are just harder to see - even worse if they are wearing dark clothing.

It's getting worse. Car has now been broken into on a hotel carpark in Rotherham. Guess how they got in! Smashed rear drivers side window. Wind up window not quarter light. Pulled back seats down and emptied my boot! Loads of work gear gone! Tints held glass together quiet well. Though they have pulled it forwards and ripped the rubber seal too. I'm having the glass replaced by Skoda on Tue and re-tinted same day.

Sorry to hear that Ian but if you name the hotel then it may warn others to be more vigilant in that area.

Gladly, Holiday Inn Bawtry Road, Rotherham! Security barrier is permenently up!

P.s. They knew what was the best entry method for each car. e.g. Didn't bother with the quarter lights on mine as they know about the deadlocks. Poor astra next to mine had all 3 pieces of side glass done! A 3 series BMW had just the rear quarter glass. I'd left nothing on show. They were clearly opportunists.

They were clearly opportunists.

Not quite the word I'd use Ian!

Explains why you have a blindspot then if you can see yourself in the mirror. :dull:
