2nd hand Scout how much and what mileage?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Looking to buy a 2nd hand diesel Scout and have been looking in the up to £15,000 trade sale bracket. I am going to use the car primarily for weekend trips all over the UK perhaps in the 10,000 - 15,000 miles per year range.

My question is am I better getting a 3 year old car with mileage in the 30,000-40,000 range...which from what I can see are at the upper limit of my budget, or should I look at a higher mileage car (same age)?...for example I have seen an 80,000 mile Scout with new Cam belt for under £10,500 and in good condition.

I am wondering also whether I should take into account the re-sale value after say 3 years of ownership. Assuming I take good care of the car, keep it for 3 years and put 30,000 miles on the clock. What would be the likely re-sale value (private/trade-in) for a 6 year old car with:

A) 60,000 miles

B) 110,000 miles

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

Are you likely to sell it after 3 years?
