Hi there, does anyone know if you need to remove the engine to replace any or all of the bottom mounts on the MK1 1.9 TD engine?

If Bottom mount = dogbone, nope you should be ok. I suspect changing the drivers side/cambelt side would be a PITA though. Not sure what/where the other mounts are.

To get the drivers side mount off you probably need to take off the aux belt as well as numerous other bits such as boost pipework.

I think there is one on the passenger side but it's hidden under the battery and air box.

Thanks very much gents, i'll investigate further, i'm told its the offside one which has broken, the local parts stockist europarts are not stocking this mount so will need to be from skoda, unless anyone knows a supplier who carries a wide range of parts at the right price?

If it is indeed the offside one it puts it beside the cambelt/boost pipe work you mentioned trundlenut, what do mean by 'boost pipework' - turbo related or brake servo or a.n. other ?

The pipework from the intercooler to the EGR than runs between the engine and the washer bottle, it will need to come off so you can see what your doing and remove the aux belt.

Also the undertray, drivers side front wheel, wheel arch liner, plastic thing between undertray and liner (with annoying clips) will all need to come off.

Once all that comes off I take it that the mounting can be removed using normal torx, sockets or splined bits , no special tools, just a lot of sore fingers?

In assume the boost pipework carries exhaust gases then......

boost pipework carries pressurised air form turbo to inlet manifold via the intercooler

I think so, you are supposed to fit new bolts on the engine mounting.

That is correct, best check with your Skoda dealer - the bolts are nothing special however - 8.8s, iirc.
