what difrence does a strut brace mark 2 your car :nerd:

im going to get one i think mate!!

it stiffens the chassis, and springs = less play

thanks

No problem always here to help even if it just a little :p

Front or rear though??

How does it stiffen springs? (genuine question)

It doesn't stiffen the springs, or do anything to them. All it does is makes your front end more of a "rigid square" which (in theory) does allow the car to push down with more grip. I may attempt to demonstrate what I mean with a terrible quality picture, but I'm kind of hoping you understand :)

Nah, I want to see your epic computer drawing skillz ;)

I tried, but I can't actually work out how to explain the theory of it in a diagram either.

I believe the theory is that by making your front end more like a full square/rectangle (i.e. subframe is the bottom, two struts for the sides, and then the brace as the top) it's less likely to flex in cornering which puts more force down on the outside wheel and then as the resistance increases on the outside wheel from the ground/springs the brace actually then puts some of that force back onto the inside wheel so it corners "flatter". Whereas without the brace, there'd be more chassis flex and the inside wheel would be allowed to lift a bit more. But then that theory doesn't make much sense since you already have a front ARB for that very same reason (it's just positioned at the bottom of the suspension setup rather than across the top of the struts).

I've got one, but I don't know if it made any difference as it was on the car when I bought it and I can't be bothered to strip the vacuum box off to remove it and test. Maybe someone else can give a more honest opinion whether it actually does anything or not.

+ 1 need this picture! :)

I removed mine, just didn't like the feel of the front end as mine was pretty tight as it was.

Much prefer it without.

I also didn't fit the rear one i bought either.

They're useful for track use. But will pose next to no difference for general road use.

I had one on my old polo but bought it for looks more than anything.

I understand what the original poster was trying to say but it does read:-

"what difrence does a strut brace mark 2 your car"

Well if you dropped it on top of the wing when fitting it - if would be a big mark, maybe even down to the metal!

well spoted :giggle:

lol i didn't mean actually stiffen the spring i knew what i meant ;P just came out wrong lol there was a laps in brain to fingers communication

i not going to draw anything but try and explain in words

Your suspension turrets are only connected by the bulk head so it gives some play - as in they move towards and away from each other.

The strut brace is designed to keep the turrets parallel and moves together

Correct me if i wrong plz

feebs your spot on, strut brace will always improve handling of a car. the question is does your style of driving require a strut brace?

in my case, hell yeah! lol.

Yep - mine too! Why do you think I started making the rear ones!

Yep - mine too! Why do you think I started making the rear ones!

Your driving style just needed springs that were attached to the rest of the car :p

Yeah - it could have been like that for ablout 2 years ive been told by the mot guy...............

On standard suspension and what not.. not much!

I have one, [Edit: a front top SEAT Sport one] only notice the difference when REALLY tramping on. More eager to push the nose now too.

Still worth the £30 i paid.
