turbo timers

Featured Replies

Had trouble trying to get mine fitted. . its a HKS type o timer. . the wiring at the ignition end doesn't do what is needed for the kit to work. .

obv questions are. . is there a way around this.(extra loom needed ect) or is there a timer which will be more suited to the vrs?

Has anyone got one fitted n can give me advice?

not heard of many people running turbo timers on here, i used to have one on my glanza many years ago but i found it to be a pain in the ass. Make sure your insurance know as it can invalidate your insurance as to why it doesn't work i cant help there, is the kit compatible for the vrs???

Well i got it off someone on here who intended to fit it to a octavia vrs but never got round to it. . i presumed they'd be pretty much universal. . if there's no way round it ill just sell it on to someone who can make use of it.

The problem is the immobiliser will block it. So you need to bypass it, which will then invalidate your insurance Most likely. Why not just drive at low rpm for the last min or two of your journey?

+1 not only that but driving it will work better as you will have more cold air running through the engine bay driving it around at low rpm thus cooling things better

I don't think ANYONE has fitted one, especially to a diesel! Simply not required in the same way as on a petrol. All you need to do is just not use full boost for the last 60 seconds or so of any journey.

gavin chapells one had one fitted although he might of removed it now. that was a hks one aswell.

My understanding is a TDI turbo doesnt spin anywhere near as fast at its pertol counterpart, hence the shorter cooling off period, negating the need for a turbo timer. Maybe this is why very few have done used one.

Cool cool. . . ill just sell it on to someone with a petrol who can put it to good use. .

was pretty much a spur if the moment buy anyway :-)

It's still fitted, and I still use it, although more on the 20 second mark than the 2 minutes the old owner had it set to. I was going to remove it, but I got a copy of the fitting instructions to see how it was fitted, and it's far more complicated than I thought it would be so I never bothered. I hadn't realised it had to bypass the immobiliser though as everything seems to work fine except I have to lock the door with the key while the engine's still running. It's not necessary, I agree with Jason, but it's there so I use it. Wouldn't particularly miss it if I could be arsed to take it out though.

Yh I remember being intrigued by it last time I was in it
