Two-tone Yeti

Featured Replies

Waiting a some traffic lights this morning, a car transporter went across the junction and I noticed it had a nice white Yeti at the front of the upper deck. I then noticed that further back on the lower deck was another Yeti, but this one had a two-tone paint job: black up to just below the window line and then silver or grey above. Unfortunately the traffic was quite heavy and the lights have a very long cycle (as most do in Edinburgh) so the truck was long gone by the time I was able to move and there was no chance of getting a photo. I'm positive that was what I saw, though: it was unmistakably a Yeti, in fact the paint job seemed to make the boxy shape even more pronounced. (To be honest, from that brief signhting I didn't think it was any kind of improvement over a normal single colour finish.)

Anyone seen anything like this before?

Could it be protective film, some cars look two tone as sent from the factory, but all is revealed when the car is prepared for delivery?

New Yetis in transit come with a partial wrap so it may be the paint protection you saw.

Although two tone paintwork is an option on European Yetis, it is not mentioned in the current brochure or configurator. So it looks like this is just another option forbidden to UK buyers like DAB radios, and as has been suggested you saw a Yeti with protective film applied to its upper half!

Thanks all, looks like it must have been the protective film wrap - presumably on the top half only since the lower bodywork was definitely shiny black like mine. The white one up front didn't seem to have it though, that looked pristine and ready for the showroom. Maybe being moved between dealers?

Update: I mentioned this to the service desk guys at West End Garage when I went to pick my Yeti up after having the stone chip warranty work done (looks like they did a nice job, by the way). They also reckoned it would have been the pre-delivery protective wrap.

Protective wrap is white from my experience and applied to bonnet, roof and upper edges of the wings.

Obviously the white wrap blends with the Candy White body. ;)

Here in Switzerland (and maybe other countries) they offer a "Reef package" with special "Matterhorn" wheels etc. also comes with the roof painted a different colour to the body.

Although not two tone I am seriously thinking of having a black grill and black mirror caps on my candy white Yeti when it arrives in March. My dealer has added black 'points' to a couple of vRS models to great effect. Given the chance I would have ordered it with a black roof and black alloys .... would love to see the Yeti available to order in the same way the Mini Countryman is ... ie with lots of choices of exterior tweaks.
