Fog lights behaviour - normal?

Featured Replies

I just noticed last night that if I select reverse with my headlights on, then the fogs both come on as well. Is this normal behaviour or have I inadvertently tweaked something via VCDS or maxidot?

Normal, at least with the Superb Elegance.

Normal with the Yeti as well

As said, this is normal with the cornering fog function, ie below about 30MPH when you turn the steering wheel the fog light on that side illuminates, and when reverse selected both fogs come on which throws light out more to the side than the headlights and is very handy.

good stuff, thanks everyone. I had cornering fogs enabled on my Octavia but it didn't do this. To be honest with xenons, fogs and DRLs it's hard to keep up with what lights are going on and off

I find it useful, but I believe it can be disabled in Maxidot.

Another interesting and useful trick is that, within the 'cornering fog light' function I have noticed that, at urban speed, if you are travelling straight but put a 'turn indicator' on the corresponding fog light will also come on.

Hmm I'm going to have to look out for that one. I think I need some sort of mirror rigged up so I can see what lights the Yeti is turning on and off :giggle:

You can see the extra light specially when turning at low speeds. In my parents village there is a lane that is totally black at nights and the cornering fogs lights it up nicely. Which also proves that fogs shouldn't be used at night because of the light scatter...............

need to wait for the nights to get a bit darker round here then, I tend to be home by 7 or so these days so not much chance to see proper darkness yet :wonder:

7.34 pm now, starting to get dark now, streetlights have just come on but not so dark that you could tell which lights were on the car. By next month it will be properly dark and by november it will be around 4pm

I'd noticed the indicator and turning fogs, but not the reversing before. Very neat.

yeah but way down there it tends to be dark an hour earlier, further North, and West, then there's more light in Summer and less in Winter. I was looking at a photography app on my phone and in Summer we get just short of 18 hours of daylight per day, but in winter it is 6 hours of daylight. Plenty time to check out the yeti lighting in the winter then :wonder:
