So... I was thinking of getting hybrid turbo and fitting milltek decat turbo-back at the same time but running a generic map until i can afford clutch & remap - safe or not safe?

I'd say not, since the map is designed for a cat equipped car. For the small price of a map I'd be inclined to wait and map when fitted personally

:) a decat will be perfectly fine with appropriate mapping to suit as i can confirm from my own experiances. Im not sure on the bore as jason mentioned, but because mine is made from an original cat that why i am able to swap and change if i want to (ie MOT purposes)

If you could find a decat with the same diameter that would let you change when required, as well as fit an aftermarket system then this would be fine, but it sounds like a bit of a job lol :)

Elliott

magnex decat is a direct replacement! Same bore as oem 2.25" and same length

But may be hard to come by as i believe magnex went bust a couple of years ago

'should' be fine but better to wait

Mines ran hybrid turbo, seat fmic, miltek decat on a stock map for a while lol

Yeah i heard so but didnt someone post a link up to there site for a cheap decat (around £70 if i remember correctly) so i assumed they were back in business :)

Id dig up a link to thread if i could be a*sd, except the weather outside is fantastic lol :)

To gavin

Its 3 bolts on turbo

Two exhaust rubbers

Then an exhaust clamp to existing system

Can be done on the drive?

But as said different bore to oem system

Milltek is 2.5" as opposed to 2.25 so a reducer of sorts will be req!

Already got a full turbo-back Milltek on it, so I'm assuming that the sports cat downpipe is a straight swap for my decat downpipe, same bore etc. Just wasn't sure whether it was doable on the drive (or probably a mates garage to keep dry) or whether it'd have to be an up on ramps job.

The downpipe I've bought also seems to be "sleeved" so I assume it's designed to slot into the midsection somehow, I need to get under and have a look at some point.

Yeah should be a straight swap

Did mine a few weeks back. Honestly, I'd say it's near impossible to do without the car in the air - the top bolt on the triangular flange attached to the turbo is a mare to get to, even up in the air. Having a stud shear didn't help either

All sorted now, it sounds awesome.

Regarding the De-cat MOT change, it is my understanding that it is still speculation - nothing has been confirmed from DfT yet.. Please correct me if I'm wrong.. :)

I haven't seen anything from DfT officially. However, I've got a copy of a draft MOT manual for 2012, and I have a friend who's an MOT tester by trade (although not working for himself and I wouldn't want to get him in trouble with his company for falsifying one for me, it's just not fair on him) who mentioned on Facebook the other day that he was going to have to find a cat as well to replace his decat downpipe.

It might just be speculation, but it's speculation which has been around for at least a year now and not going away, and it does tie in with the current Government eco-drive. So at this point in time, I reckon it is actually going to go ahead. Same with the airbag requirement, which is why I've bought a second hand wheel for using at least for the MOT, if not full-time, to replace my Momo.

I too have an MOT tester friend, and I also work for DfT (indirectly). I know first hand how arse about face they can be sometimes, so until the change is set in stone, I'm not gonna worry.

Wasn't 'illegal' chipping also on this same agenda?

Had a turbo back milltek (decat) on my vrs now for 4 years and not had a problem with it and the turbo is still fine !

Will it not be a case of all new diesel cars must have a cat for the MOT as the emissions limit for diesel cars were halved after 2008 or something like that ?

IF all this speculation is correct and a cat is required I'll just get a sports cat to swap over come MOT time like everyone else will probably do.

See I "heard" the changes were only effecting cars from 2006 onwards. Theres so much Chinese wipers going on, we`ll just have to wait and see.

Don't need uprated clutch for hybrid turbo, just get a good mapper to map the car to suit the rest of the car.

Yeah you do for the full benefits

Whats the point in going to the expence of a fancy turbo if you have to limit it so the clutch doesnt poop it

Backwards thinking if you ask me!

I'm pretty sure you ran s*it power after your hybrid. I'm about 0.3 slower than the full map over 1/4 mile which to me isn't worth a toffee.

I wouldnt say thats a fair comparison, since your exceptionally good at 1/4 mile runs. However, if someone is on a budget, I reckon there would be no issue running a standard clutch providing its not on its last legs and its driven with a bit of care/respect (for it to last long anyway)

It's fair, I'm not going by my 14.1 at gti, I'm going by my Santa pod times with Luke.

The same person set the time in each car?

Bobby singh with 265bhp only got a 13.9s so its more to do with the driver

Mines was at 195bhp but that was before i owned it (on a sachs organic) was mapped for reliability

So i put a helix and smf in it, then got it mapped by richard washbrook

And my 14.4s at 97mph was at that 195bhp.... Which i personally think is a pretty good time and terminal

Oh and....

It doesnt matter if you win by a mile or an inch.... Winning is winning so 0.3 of a second is everything ;)

Haha only joking!!

I was thinking of just trying the standard clutch but I want full powahhh lol also my clutch has done over 70k now and I think the DMF is getting rattley
