YETI DELIVERY TO UK

Featured Replies

Wondering about my soon to be new-build and how long it will take to get to the dealer?

Do they send individually when built or wait till they have a transporter load? It seems very likely from the forum that over the next week or two they are building rhd elegances. I imagine this has been discussed at length previously but can't find anything.

Some people are driving within 3 weeks of build so they bcan't be sitting around long! Sorry if I'm being a bit naive here but would love to know what happens next?

Three weeks usually from built to collection from dealer.

That's train from the factory to Germany, ship to the UK and then delivery to the dealer, followed by an inspection before you can collect.

I doubt they wait for long before sending them as there must be a fair few coming to the UK.

Not sure about VAG - but the car manufacturers I have been invovled in didn't do a blocks of RHD or LHD high/low specs. In fact quite the opposite, due to line balancing and TAKT times a high spec 'Elegance' would be followed by a couple of 'S' specs. eg if overall line speed is based on time to build an SE then extra/less time is needed for the others so the line is mixed to ensure the operators don't get ahead/behind.

Agreed. I have visited a couple of manufacturing lines and the cars were built according to the spec ordered - as it goes down the line the parts needed for it are electronically tracked and made available at the point of fitment, so the end of the line is a mix of specs and handedness. The engineering and planning that goes into building a car plant is far more fascinating and impressive than that that goes into the cars!

When my Yeti came to the UK it came to Kent, I assume all VAG cars do, as they use the huge automotive part of sheerness port http://www.medwayports.com/sheerness/automotive.htm Despite living so close have never been to the island, so had no idea of the scale of the place, Sheerness has always had reputation of strange results due to close family 'ties'! :S So generally avoided, but because these kinds of facilities interest my strange mind (the port, not family tying) I shall maybe have a look soon, all VW cars used to come ashore at Ramsgate and were stored at nearby sandwich, so i miss seeing all the shiney new cars about!

Anyone know where about's in Germany they are shipped from? Funny thinking one of the car transporters that shelters of the coast would have held my Yeti!

Skoda (VAG?) train up to Emden when train is full, Then ship from Emden to Sheerness, Grimsby and another port I think as well. Depends where the dealer is based. They they have to find it under all the snow (in Elsie's case) wait until it is safe to deliver and find some other vehicles that are being delivered to your dealers neck of the woods. Then your dealer should see it, hopefully not damaged. Then he will PDI it. The we can get our grubby little hands on it, unless you live at the other end of the country and you are having it delivered by road & thrashed to get to your house on time.......emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

If you call up any of the shipping AIS (Automatic Information for Shipping) web sites and look at Emden you will see every day there is one or two car ferries bound for Sheerness or Grimsby

Later that day they are in the UK , Next day they are back to Emden. The problem is knowing where your Yeti is. When my dealer looked for mine it gave the DB Railway wagon number en route to Emden

they also deliver to Tyne. Mine took slightly longer to get to the dealer as it went further South to Grimsby rather than Port of Tyne where they usually come in.

Mine sneaked a lift with a transporter load of Audi's out of Sheerness to Allams; courtesy of James and his contacts ;) Arrived there from Emden on the Elbe Highway, which strangely is named after a river flowing from the Czech Republic to the northern coast of Germany :wonder:

Built 7th April Collected 30th April, although it had been at Allams a week by then :)

A photo of the factory and delivery train can be found here;
