Lowering a fabia vrs 2005

Featured Replies

I want to lower my car which is a black Fabia 2005, i'm wondering which make/type of springs to put on it and also the best depth to lower it to?

Thanks in advance

Big question how low do you want?

Subtle go for eibach springs (-25mm)

Bigger drop go for coilovers

(ap/weitec/kw)

coilovers and loads... obviously...

do a search mate on coilovers there will be loads of information on those threads

:D this

Depend what you want from your car? sporty handling? then just -25 on springs and maybe dampers if wanted. If you want it to look nice but not drive as well as the first option then its coilovers.

*waits for arguments*

Yeah as mentioned a lot is down to personal choice and how much you actually want to lower it.

 Wtf? Coilovers make a car drive worse now do they?

Depends what you class as 'worse'.

If you're decked, and or riding a stuff setup, it's not gunna be ideal for normal road use.

True, he hasnt really stipulated in what way "worse". But decent coilovers well set up coilovers are often no worse (in some cars i`v driven better) than springs in terms of comfort. Many cars with just springs seem crashy and a bit bouncy tbh. Coilovers are obviously the best option for decent handling, but I dont think they loose massive amounts of comfort either. My fabia rides much better than a mate with just springs.

Matched springs and shocks should out perform the lower end of coilovers

A set of say kw v2's / v3's (set up properly - important) should equal if not better matched shocks and springs

It's all down to the quality of the damper. On the KW's the same spring rate are used on the v1,v2 and v3's. It's the dampers your paying for.

I'd be interesting to see if a cheap £200 suspension kit can out preform the oem stuff on a typical British b road. Yes the steering respond will be sharpened but how well would it keep the wheels in contact with the black stuff.

Haha knew someone would bite on that comment.

But yeah all above is basically what i was getting at. If your not into spending best part of 500 - 600 quid to get coilover and get them set up correctly and all you are after is sporty handling then -25 is fine. If you have 600 for coilovers then its the best a man can get lol.

I had cheap coilovers on my 6N2 polo GTi, it was down 80mm all round. I'd never buy cheap coilies again. After using them for best part of 3 years I got sick of the ride. Probably had a lot to do with how low it was but it was enough of an experience to put me off.

My 9N3 polo has FK Konigsports on it, probably down around 50mm on softest damper setting. These are excellent you generally don't notice your driving a car with coilovers (in respect to firmness), until you hit a pothole.

Would recommend to anyone, if they're going to invest in coilovers, invest in a proper set.
