Wife had an accident tonight in her Fabia (not her fault) and looks like it needs 2 new doors (1 front 1 rear), the sill repairing (been slightly bent where front and rear door meet) then these parts respraying.

Anyone any idea how much she could be looking at for this at a proper body shop before we get a shock next week?

Doors, sill, if the rear wing or subframes are bent as well might well be uneconomical to repair.

Dont fancy insurance? It'll likely be very expensive or a write-off as above if the sill damage is actually subframe damage.

How does insurance work over there???

That would be a simple case over here when the cause of damage (car insurance and info of driver) would pay automatically... In case of no insurance the victim would always get saved and the guilty party would get billed somehow afterwards... The insurance companies always find a way to get their money.

not if you have legal cover, they will sort out persuing the other side for the excess. Even if you don't you can persue them through the small claims court to recover it.

In 3 different countries I've been, (not UK however) it's like that. Not your fault? Not your bill! I don't get what the worry is all about...

You may have to pay the excess upfront and then get it back later, that's what happened to me last year... I wonder if the reason he's asking is that the other party has offered to pay rather than go down the insurance route... Dangerous game, that!

Its one of those things that even with piccies we couldn't tell you how much it would cost as there could be other damage we couldn't see... take it to a body repair specialist and find out...

Yeah, the guys are right. You really need a professional to look at it. If there is hidden damage it can be mega expensive...you may just be seeing the obvious stuff. In any case, all body damage can be expensive and you should go through your insurers who can pursue the claim for you. You won't even lose you excess if it's not your wife's fault. Very pleased your wife is ok and no one hurt. Good luck with this and keep us all informed if you can as to how it is going.

Definitely go insurance route & you'll get the car professionally assessed, the one that caused the damage may have a reason for there willingness to pay out

i had a similar thing happen to me in my mk1, 2 doors, sill etc etc

cost roughly £3000 but i never paid a single penny, they admitted liability, paid for a hire car, paid any excess there was plus anything else i needed. i never needed legal cover or anything. makes it so much easier if they admit fault

financially i never felt a thing

was touch and go about repairing until fully assessed but that was the only thing i sweated over

this was mine if you want to compare visible damage

You have 4 options of how to deal with it

1) Your insurance company

2) Your legal insurance provider

3) Third parties insurer

4) Accident Management Company

All options should result in you having to pay no excess. Options 2 and 4 cost the 'industry' a lot more money. Option 3 is generally the best one. Because they're at fault they generally bend to every demand you have. Main dealer, hire car etc (I should know, I settled claims for long enough by contacting non fault parties where one of our customers hit into them and offering to deal with it all!)
