Octy falling to bits!

Featured Replies

Right, I just washed, polished and then vacuumed the car, and when I was doing doing the drivers side footwell, I found 3 things:

I am guessing that (1) is a spring from under the seat and can be ignored (the spring can be filed away and forgotten about)

(2) - this was on the carpet up near to the pedals and felt like there was some grease on it

(3) - this was under the drivers seat as well

It is (2) that gives me the greatest concern.... any ideas?

Thanks :-)

bumpy bumpy - normally I would not bump, but I am keen to know about part (2) and if I am likely to suffer impending doom anytime shortly because of it.

Thanks

I think that number 1 is related to the ratchet mechanism to raise and lower the seat. I wouldn't be surprised if 2 and 3 were ejected when the spring broke.

Could be worth unbolting both front seats and tipping them back and comparing them to identify the source of the bits.

Ive found a spring like that under my passenger seat the seat still functions ok so its in the door pocket its one of those when i can be bothered jobs. Ill take the seat out when day when i can be bothered

(1) and (3) were under the drivers seat, but (2) was under the pedals (on the slope of the carpet, which makes me wonder if it came from another location.

How easy is it to tip the remove/undo the seats enough to tip them forward to do a comparison?

2 could be the plastic clip off the clutch pedal that contacts the clutch switch.?

take a really good look at the clutch pedal where the master cyl attaches as the weld breaks there and the cyl pushes thru .

1 and 3 are for the counter balance spring for the ratchet to lift and lower the base iirc, 3 is the clips that the spring is held on with i think,

2 is off a pedal somhere.

(2) appears to be 100% metal in construction.

Push the seats all the way back, undo the two bolts on the bracket in the middle under the seat and it should just tip back - but watch out for the wiring for the seat belt and airbag, probably a good idea to undo the connector and unclip the wire from the seat.

That spring is common to fall off the seat.

I had same. no adverse effects from not having it fitted, would not worry too much.

I had the same spring come off of my seat leon and 2 polo gtis

The bigger worry is the piece if metal, if it is clutch related!
