Tyre size

Featured Replies

This may be covered elsewhere in which case please just give me a link.

Finding it very difficult to find All Season tyres for my 2005 Fabia Estate (Elegance) 1.9TDI, I'm wondering if I can change from the specified low profile 205/45/16 tyre to the more common size of 205/55/16, i.e. just getting slightly deeper tyres? Does anyone know if this is acceptable? The owners guide is silent. Thanks in anticipation.

Can do just check difference in rolling radius is ok. Or you could go 195/45/16 as well it's the standard size used on 16 Leon wheels so can't see too much issue

Standard 16" Leon wheels on a Cupra for example aren't 195/45 16 more like 225. 195/45 would be way to small for a Leon, be ok for an Ibiza though. Unless of course you mean the right size tyre for fitting a Leon wheel to a Fabia.

205/55 16 will rub on the left hand rear I think people have found, not to mention speedo being out etc as the profile is much bigger (45% of 205 vs 55% of 205).

Are you sure you have the correct wheel and tyre size for your car? I know the vRS uses 205/45R16 but other models use a different rolling radius. For example 185/60R14, which is standard for all 1.9 TDi in the UK, but others sizes include 195/50R15.

For both sizes you could get Hankook Optimo 4S or Vredestein Quatrac 3.

Yes absolutely sure but thanks anyway.

May have got my seat mixed up but the one I was looking at today running stock wheels was running 195/45. It may have been an Ibiza though not too up on newer seat models

As said, 205/55/16 will rub on your nearside rear. I tried to fit them and took them off after 5 min as they were rubbing so bad.
