Servicing Costs

:D

Quite - all I will say is I thought that Variable/Fixed servicing was optional to the customer. What happens if the car is sold as a used car through the network ? My dealer also suggested that I could go back onto variable at hte next service if I wanted to -provided that the car had been serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, which it clearly has.

Skodaw ?

Thought you all might be interested to read this from the Honest John section of the Daily Telegraph. Especially his comments about turbo charged engines and carbon deposits in oil. I personally decided to switch from Variable to Fixed servicing at 10,000 miles for this very reason.

"There is no way any oil can stay in grade and not be contaminated by carbon deposits in a turbocharged petrol engine for 15 months and 14,000 miles"

Interesting that one - he normally knows his stuff, though I have to say that I had no problems over 45k with my Audi on long life.

My thinking is that I've eaten into a huge chunk of the engineering tolerances with the remap and I'd rather the engine had fresh oil as often as possible.

Honest John needs to come into the 21st century as far as his advice on engine oils are concerned. This article explains the background to Castrol developing a Longlife oil for VW, and why the oil is as good as it is. The document is in .pdf format so needs to be read with Adobe Reader 6.0 which can be downloaded for free.

H.J does seem to be a bit out of date as I got my Audi in April 2000 which was on the Castrol Long Life then.

I seriously think than TaviaRs Jon has got the best approach though for modified engines - Long Life oil every 10k, but I can't afford that !
