Just collected vRS!!

Featured Replies

Picked up my brand new 05 Fabia vRS today! I waved goodbye to my '02 Impreza WRX and don't regret it at all. The vRS feels extremely well built and much more expensive than it costs. Build quality is fantastic.

I forgot to ask the dealer about running it in, can anybody advise run in period etc? I've done 74 miles like a complete Jessy!

Running in instructions for the first 1000 miles and after are in the Owner's Manual and. Some members follow Honest John's running in advice - but I would stick with that recommended by Skoda.

In addition to running the car properly, in I would recommend 2 other things. First, remove the alloys and smear a thin coating of Copper Grease or similar on the mating face so that the wheels can be removed easily in the future. (The mating surfaces corrode with time and the wheels can become extremely difficult to remove). Second, buy a litre of spec VW 505 01 oil so that you have the correct oil when you need it.

"Mating face" ???

I used a half a litre in the first 5000 miles, but in the first 1000 miles of that it used none

Years ago, if you had alloy wheels, they used to fit a thin copper sheet between the wheel and the hub to stop the wheel from fusing to the iron hub. I guess this practice has faded away due to it not being economically viable.

Up to 1000 miles do not exceed 3k RPM, and not recommended to hoof it to 3k RPM.

After this gradually increase the RPM ( not hoofing )

Dont know if you've seen other threads, but if you treat the engine nicely, you will see your MPG improve.

Agree with carry a Litre of oil.

Hope you have nearly as much fun with your Furby as you had with the Scoob.

Don't think the mini I was behind was sticking to this, 05 reg. It stank! I'm glad that I overtook it. Is it normal for new cars to smell funny?

Thanks for the replies!

I'll pick up some oil and take it easy for a thousand or so miles. Did anyone see today's Auto Express? Nice article comparing the Fab vRS to the new Fiesta 1.4 TDCi. Guess which one came out on top!

Congratulations!

I traded in a 97000 mile e46 328i se for my tdi 100 estate and I'm really happy too. (although I'll probably turn it into a vRS-a-like as I go on)

My Fab had 2300 miles on it when I picked it up two weeks ago and had been owned by an old guy. I'm slowly winding the revs up as I don't know how it has been driven- it sure felt tight but is loosening up now! Yes, you need to bed in mechanical components but the truth is they keep 'bedding in' for quite a while. I've heard that TDI engines generally are not really loosened up until 10000 miles. Until someone does some side by side comparisons of thrashing it from the outset and other methods, we won't know for sure.

Anyone have any other views?

I would never have the patience for all that. First 100 miles i will get used to the cars dimensions and bed the brakes in etc and then once warm she will get a good leathering - but each to there own ;)

Where the alloy wheel comes into direct contact with the steel brake disc or drum.

Just got the call from my dealer, got a reg number and it should be here next week.

Thats the spirit

Some old guy owned mine for the first 1k miles, then since I bought it I thrash it every day and at 5k miles I got 195 bhp on a Jabba remap, so something must be working :D
