Octy vRS engine oil?????

Featured Replies

My Octy hasnt yet had its service, bought it 2nd hand 2 weeks ago its only 18 months old, 11500mls.

If im right in my understanding its service interval category is a QG1 - meaning it has extended/variable service intervals.

Im wanting to change the oil as I do 200mls a week (more than previous owner).

As I understand it, regular oil changes improve turbo-life - is this right??

So, I have a couple of questions:

a) this wont void my warranty will it?

B) what is the best oil to use?

or c) should I get a dealer to do it under the warranty service when it gets closer to its 2yrs??

Any help would be appreciated, im a novice when it comes to car mechanics

:)

There's a guide or an article buried somewhere. Basically you need longlife oil to a VAG spec (I think it's 503-01, but Denis is the best man to tell you). It's a 0w30 oil and the most common solution is Castrol Longlife SLX (I think that's what it's called).

I was wondering the same as I too have 11,500 on the clock and do around 200 miles per week and my Rs is 1 yr old (GD1). I asked the Skoda dealer when I took it back for some small warranty work and they said "Dont worry as when it needs a service, an indication on the instument display will light up informing you of a need for service/oil change". I looked thru the manual and if I read it right a message will flash up on the information panel when the ignition is turned on for a short while. I'm still unsure tho. How far has everyones Octy Rs gone before requiring an oil change and is it really worth it to change the oil before its service?

You need a VW 503.01 oil in the VRS.
Octavia vRS = VW 503 00 on variable servicing.

Sorry Denis,

Was not paying attention, VW503.00 on Octy VRS with variable service.

VW503.01 for the Fabia VRS which does not have variable service.

Cheers

Guy.

It must be one of those days, Guy! It's VW 505 01 for Fabia vRS.

To answer the first query, I would leave the car on variable servicing. The right oil - in this case VW 503 00 (LongLife) oil - is good for up to 30,000 miles in the Octavia PD engine on variable servicing, or 20,000 miles in the 1.8T. Just make sure that you use it for topping up between services. The indication that a service is imminent will be displayed in the trip counter display each time the car is started. The information counts down to give reasonable warning. Be aware that it only appears for a few seconds each time so keep an eye on the trip display on startup.

hi, just to be sure here... my octy vrs needs an oil top up. it's on long service intervals... am i right in thinking that getting some VW 503 00 oil such as castrol longlife 2 will be ok?

Yes. A comprehensive list of suitable oils is here. Please be aware that there is more than one type of Castrol SLX. The particular one you need is Castrol SLX LongLife II - which clearly states on the container that it meets spec VW 503 00.

thanks :)
