Aluminium grease

Featured Replies

I have tried at several motor accessory shops including Halfords to try and buy some Aluminium Grease.

Who sells it, preferably in small tubes.

Thanks in anticipation.

Just curious... Why has it got to be aluminium?

Please don't tell me it's to save weight??

I have already been down that route, so assuming it's not available in the UK, what other greases are OK for brake caliper slider pins ? Some posts say, don't use copper grease !

I have always used red rubber brake grease, dont use cooper grease whatever you do, as copper interacts with aluminium.

Try this:-

I've used Castrol LM Grease:

Red grease is for use with rubber<>metal brake components only. For lubricating metal<>metal brake parts use something like CERA(?) that ECP sells either branded Textar (in yellow tubes) or Pagid (in blue tubes) - same company!

Definitely don't use copper grease, it's not much of a lubricant, and just dries up with heat.

The Ceratec lubricant also comes in Mintex variety and Mintex and Pagid are same company I believe.

Difficult to know exactly what grease to use, but I ended up using the Ceratec stuff last time I did it. Last time I bought a new pin kit that had grease supplied with it but did not specify exactly what it was.

TPS do Lithiuum Grease, and it's £3.08+VAT for a 500g tub! Hope this helps!

The ATE Plastilube is what VAG supplies to dealers.

anewman is bang on the money.

Copper grease is seldom used, not just because of its quick drying properties, but also its metal content. More and mroe people are finding that Copper grease can interfere with the ABS system, and gather dirt and dust, stopping the pad from sitting flush.

I would go for Cera Tec - its only £3 for enough to do a complete brake set.
