Anti Toyo tyre thread

Hmmm.. If "developed for / with a scooby" is true...

Maybe it's the soft chassis on un modified Fabia vRS's that causes suck quick wear?

All that torque & weight being allowed to load up and roll onto each front corner as you power round...

Seems that the people above who get acceptable wear all have stiffened springs, at least.

If a tyre's under or over inflated it will wear unevenly - so if you're on normal pressure then it's not this.

No point in using nitrogen. http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/safety/filling-tyres-with-nitrogen.html

However you can't blame the tyres for wearing out at 5k - the only possibility is a faulty batch.

Very good point. The Scooby point was somebody else's claim.

OK no more Nitrogen. Was told it was better, if used, for many reasons.

Barum barvatuis lasted 35k on the front and a further 7k on the back.

Now replaced with barvatuis 2 and there a bit worse in the dry than gsd3's but better in the wet.

Made by contis too, and recommended by merc.

Heavy diesel lump + lots of torque + heavy right foot = SHREDDED tyres.

I had Toyos on my previous car and fitted T1Rs all round on the fabia, done 13k on them so far and the fronts are only half worn. More than exceeding my expectations as I had read they didn't last long. I find I have to try pretty hard to get them to spin, so I guess it must be a matter of driving style.

I've had mine for about 5months maybe more and there fine what the he'll are you doing with them? I don't exactly drive super sensible, but I don't take the Pisa!

Quick update. Tyre merchant claims normal even wear for the Toyos (tracking not out) so I guess I drive it too hard in some way. Lesson learnt. Just forked out £259 all in for PS3s. Claimed not to be quite as good in the wet as Toyos.

Got mine on the rears. Hope they last a long time..

What are a good alternative???

Had quite a long chat with boys at garage (autograss people with lots of machinery) and they beleive quite rightly that Toyos stick to the road (Scoobys and all that) but they wear out with spirited driving. I have had this French variety on the back since I bought the car and it looks like they are good for another year. I think its just the comments about heavy diesel lump and mass of torque on back of 182 bhp. God knows how people keep their tyres on with power in excess of 200 bhp.

Seems that the people above who get acceptable wear all have stiffened springs, at least.

I've been getting around 10-11k from them on the fronts on average over 3-4 years with normal suspension (+RARB). Only just changed to a stiffer setup, so will see how that affects tyre life I guess?

(rears easily last 2x as long)

My 65bhp Corsa when i was 17yrs old had toyo T1-R's on and the fronts did only last 5600 miles before they failed the MOT for being bald but back then i used to have alot of 'fun' trying to get the car to leave 11's in the road etc etc, by comparsion the backs lasted 3yrs on the car though i can't remember how many miles i did before the car got scrapped, at least 30k though.

More recently i've had t1-r's on car's for 10k and not been below 5mm tread. i think for the cheap cost and the grip they offer plus the cool goodyear F1 lookalike tread pattern they don't have a direct competitor.

Always try and get toyos when I can and averaged about 8-10k from the fronts and the rears about double that !

I find Uniroyal Rainsport 2's to be a great tyre for the price.

They're very good in the dry and excellent in the wet, which is important to me as I do a fair bit of driving in my job. They're also reasonably quiet and wear very well....

....although I've no idea how many miles you'd get out of them doing SAS driving in Hereford

i got toyo px4s on the front of my car which i got with my new wheels and imho they are shocking in the wet but good in the dry by far and away the best tyres ive ever had are the yokohama s.drive tyres epic in the dry and very good in the wet and got 10k out of them. albeit they cost £120 more but id happly sepnd the extra money on them. just my 2p

I hope its not quite as bad as that. LOL. Pity there is no definitive on tyre wear. I suppose if I get 10k or 12k from the Michelins then it will be a result compared to the Toyos but claims for many more makes have been mentioned so I have a lot of testing to do over the years....... ahead.

I have only read the title and have to say....

If you buy cheap tyres what do you expect?

I just bought two Michelin PS3s for £270 when I could have got some nasty crp like toyo for half that.

Why? Because I want the best all round tyre you can buy for safety/performance and it will last more than twice as long as the Toyo.

Buy cheap, buy twice. You cant buy cheap and then moan I'm affraid.

ps the Toyo R888 is a very good tyre, I'm talking about their 'road tyres'.
