does your Fabia II have an asr button?

Featured Replies

When I took mine out for a test drive last week it didn't have any....is there any reason it doesn't?

Its a 1.9 tdi 3 I thought it would be standard.

Thanks

Leon

You mean traction control button?

The VRS does.

If it doesn't have a button it doesn't have it.

Yeah my old mkI 16v 100, and 100tdi, and 2.0 8v all had Asr/ traction controlled button as standard...haha yes I've been in a few fabias :p

Is it on constantly then I'm guessing?

Mine has this on the dashboard

You got the ESP option though Adam.

Mine has none of that, not even traction control, and that's on the Elegance spec. Unless you have the "off" button, you don't have ASR.

Fair enough...I thought it would of been default.

Thanks!

On the Fabia Mk1 the 1.9tdi had ASR as standard.

On the Fabia Mk2 only DSG, Greenline 2 and Scout models have ESP standard.

My wife's old Mk1 1.9Tdi managed quite well in the snow with all weather tyres and ASR with EDL. Her new Mk2 doesn't have any traction control systems and is fitted with wide low profile summer tyres so I've ordered a set of winters for it.

My wife's Fabia Elegance TSI 85 has the ESP+ option; got caught out by the first snow last year and even with the stability and traction systems moving about on the daft 205/45 tyres was near impossible. Ordered a steel wheel package from mytyres, opting for the more sensible and smoother riding 195/55 R15 tyre size. Almost look forward to winter now just to get rid of the standard bone shaker 16" wheels for a few months

You need to switch the traction control off in snow as the wheels will not give you drive in the snow

A feather light TSI Fabia on 205/45 W rated summer tyres just doesn't do snow, no matter whether ASR is on or off. If anything without traction just increased the swan lake effect

On the other hand my son's Fabia I HTP 54 on 165/70 R14 budget summer tyres had no bother getting about, mind it will be shod with Goodyear Vector 4Seasons this time round B)

Leon, your diesel is easy to control in the snow without any fancy stuff. Traction isn't a problem due to the slightly heavier front end on the diesel, even with standard tyres. You'll find you can go most places where other's can't (particularly if they have a petrol engine without traction control) on standard tyres if you are used to snow driving. I found the TSI petrol engined fabia's were not good in the snow last year on the standard tyres. My 1422cc PD was way way better and so will your 1.9.

I have driven in the snow before, I'd of thought that the lighter the car the easier it can just poodle along in the snow! My Bohemia also had no asr, and I didn't struggle the only thing I had to get used to was aquaplaning where my old 2

0 didn't seem to make a fuss. Maybe its me worrying too much lol. I don't drive silly anyway its just that peace of mind I guess? Nothing to worry about then? :-)

No, that little extra weight you get with the diesel over the front drive wheels makes all the difference, as you will find out. Even in the worst snow that I encounted last winter I had no problems at all. This was even when others were failing to make it up hills and down side roads that were not gritted and on country road with deep snow I still got through ok where others feared to tread. Just use your common sense, go easy with the clutch and keep the revs down and she will go pretty much anywhere. My Fabia diesel is by far the best car I've owned for snow work and that's on standard tyres. Enjoy!

I've ordered 165/70R14 Bridgestone Blizzak winters for my wife's Fabia, going to be mutch better than the 195/55R15 Continental summer tyres in the snow.

My Passat on 235/45 Conti's was very poor last year. Managed to get some 205/55 Pirelli Sottozero winters half way through the snow and the transformation was dramatic, totally different car.

Our old Fabia 1.9Tdi on 185/60 all weather tyres was actually quite good but not expecting the 1.2's with 190kg less on the front end and wider lower profile summer rubber to be anywhere near as good.

Funny old thing we have the Blizzak LM30's for our Mk II but in 195/55 R15, down from the oversized 205/45 R16 and they worked fine last winter. Went that route rather than going down to 14's having read something on a German site along the lines that 14's didn't work with TPM. Not sure how that might be as its just taking the rotational input from the ABS sensor, however we played safe just in case.

Should be a list of approved sizes in the fuel filler flap. Our HTP can go down to 14's but the TSi only has 15's approved althuogh you can have 185/60R15's instead of the standard 195/55R15's.

Have two 14" options on the flap along with the 195/55 R15, the 205/45 R16 as unfortunately fitted as standard and the crazy 17" route :D

Bizarrely the official 185/55 R15 winter as listed on the approved rim and tyre size PDF published by Skoda Germany is not on the flap :wonder: Although thinking about it I belive the standardisation of the 185/55 R15 as the approved winter for all Fabia II's only came about this year.

Do you guys buy winter tyres from a skoda dealer? Or my tyres?

Do you guys buy winter tyres from a skoda dealer? Or my tyres?

Normally get mine from the internet, there's quite a few sites selling tyres.

The following link is a Yeti thread but towards the bottom of the first post are links to the major on-line retailers;

mytyres for me.

Steel wheels and tyres.

£340 for the HTP and £380 for the TSi.

Nearly £800 for the Passat although I did buy them last year in the middle of the snow when demand was sky high and there was very little availability.

In the end even the winter tyres defeated me last year and I had to borrow a Jeep to get to work.

Snow11.jpg

Left the Passat parked up until the thaw.

I don't think the Fabia will be getting through that even with winter tyres and ASR :D

Lol it looks like it could be even cheaper to buy a really old 4x4 with a couple of months mot and tax just to get by!

If the snow is that bad this year, work can stuff it. I wont be coming in, every year I've made the effort, on some occasions even been in my car for 3 hours (to do about 10 miles!)

My current job is a 21 mile drive away and I wont be doing it if its really bad, its all well and good getting there but if the snow comes down again where am I going to sleep? On the sofa in work with no food? Dont think so

Problem is if the snow falls after getting to work :o had that a few times and there's 36 miles to cover with the exposed high ground of the Wolds in between; 5 hours is my record so far :S Take an overnight bag with me these days in case a B&B or colleagues sofa becomes the only option. The Yeti is pretty capable 4x4 on winters but even she can be defeated by abandoned cars or deep drifts blocking the roads and lanes round here.
