Rear Brakes re-wind help

Featured Replies

Today I started to do the discs and pads all round on my fabia vrs, the fronts went on in no time at all, the rears however took ages to come off. I had to weld a nut on to one of the caliper screws to get it out.

could somone tell me what size screw i need to replace it. I'd take it in to the shop but don't fancy driving without it fitted, it's the one of the ones at the back of the calliper to remove it from the carrier

Secondly i'm having a world of trouble winding the caliper back in. I've been using a tool for another machine that fits well enough it just seems to be taking forever so I gave up and will go back tomorrow, do I have to wind it back until it won't wind anymore? or just until it fits. Any little tips here would be great, and before anyone says re-wind tool I tried to get one from Halfords but they sold out!

Have you removed brake res. cap?

I got the laser tool but from Amazon marketplace as it was £14.99 delivered. IMO as long as the prongs of the tool fit and the tool itself fits up to the caliper you should be OK. I found it difficult to get started so I re-attached one of the caliper bolts so I could juggle the tool and plate rather than looking for a third hand to hold the caliper. I just felt my way into it. I wasn't going to wrestle with it and break the caliper by tighening too much, too soon.

UNLESS you've got the wrong thread. You need a right hand thread tool for the Fabia etc... See description here - http://www.toolbox.co.uk/laser-1314-brake-caliper-14630-112057?utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=GB&utm_campaign=GoogleBase

Other than that have you taken the lid off the brake fluid resevoir?

J.

try pushing the caliper piston in a little first with some big adjustable's then use your winder tool to see if it help's get it started, might just need some persuasion :wonder:
