mapping out the EGR?

Featured Replies

Just a quick question,

does mapping out the EGR 'switch it off' in a closed position? or is it simply to turn of the CEL light if it's removed completely ?

many thanks.

You can alter the mapping so it's closed. You can also alter the mapping so the fault light doesn't appear.

Both if you wish.

Thanks Gents,

so will swithing it off remove the BLT hesitation ?

in other words, if I was thinking about having the car mapped to stage 1, would it be easier to just get the EGR mapped out rather than messing about trying to clean it?

Also, will the car still pass an MOT with the EGR mapped out (it's a 57 plate SE if that makes any difference) ?

I'm sure jabba would map the function out as part of the remap. As long as you kept the EGR in place who would know?

From what ive heard blt's cant be mapped out

Now i have no experience of that personally just heard it on here.... Wether that was chinese whispers or not i dont know

I do however know its definately possible on an asz as i got it done to mine

Sorry guys, but i don`t really get this--which part do you mean by closing on the Egr and how to close it? I`m about to do sg this weekend....so would appreciate some help.thanks.

The egr can be turned off. Not sure about disabling the cel. But if you leave the egr in place then no need for the cel to come on. Right?

Pretty sure it still throws up a cel?

Mapping it shouldn't cause a CEL. By mapping it, you recalibrate the ECU to expect more air over the MAF. My PD150 would be set to expect something like 250mg/stroke at idle, if it was much above that then it would realise I'd unplugged the EGR. My PD130 is set to expect something like 850mg/stroke on idle, which will never be exceeded, so no CEL there. There's also no electrical connection on the ASZ as it's vacuum operated, so on an ASZ you can also physically remove the EGR with no problems as the vacuum controller is still present.

On a BLT, the EGR is electric so you could do the first half and set unachievable MAF figures which should mean the EGR never actually opens, but you can't physically remove it because the electrical connection is then removed and the ECU can't be told not to look for it.

That's how I understand it anyway.

My EGR is mapped out, no CEL. No faults in engine section. Mine is the ASZ derivative though so can't comment on BLT/Euro 4 or whatever.

Thanks for all the replies, so you might be able to do it on a BLT, but would it cure the hesitation/occasional stuttering?

My BLT had really bad hesitation.

I did that gasket thing for £2 and its totally fixed it. The car is now smooth as silk.

I was doubtful, but it does work.

Just fit the 9mm gasket and have done with it. Cures the hesitation, and no CEL light on the dash. I can hardly tell the difference between having the 9mm gasket fitted and having the EGR disabled.

Mine was the same. Hated it in standard form, now much improved. My concern was it would only reduce the hesitation, not remove it completely, but I'm struggling to tell the difference between no EGR at all, and the gasket mod.

Ok, this sounds like good news, any part number for the gasket or link to a thread please?

Also, did others cars stutter occasionaly, little bit like minor fuel starvation?

Thanks again guys, all very helpfull

We can turn the EGR off so the ecu doesn't open the valve up. This wont create any fault codes.

Faults appear when you remove the whole valve from the BLT engines because they incorporate a stepper motor in the valve for anti-shudder.

We are working on a fix for this so you'll be able to remove the complete valve from a BLT engine with no faults.

Thanks

So that approach also cures the stutter and won't cause an MOT fail?

Thanks

Sorry to hijack but I have just fitted an Allard EGR delete kit and after one day an engine management light came on, is there any way of getting this off without plugging into a garage computer? Also, what should I do with the vacuum pipes that went to the EGR? My engine is a PD130 ASZ Octavia 2004. Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

Had Stage 1 re map from Jabba almost two years ago. Had the hesitation sorted re the threads. Car simply wonderful, went from 32K miles at remap to now 48K. Not an issue at MOT time. They do not have a clue its been done

Nope!

Needs an ecu flash to get rid of it!
